I double flfireman or even just a plain canoe with outrigger pontoons. You can stand in fish with that.

A basshunter, its appx. 9' long and weighes less than 100 lb's. You can get by with a 20 lb thrust trolling motor and two people can fish from it.

All the suggestions so far would work fine, but I'd go with a jon boat. I would look in the 16' range. It's a little might be overkill for a 22 acre pond but when you make the transition to a lake it's alot safer. I think the extra room would be a definate plus over the canoe or bass hunter.

Now for the bad news. Unless you get extremely lucky, you prolly arent gonna find much of a jon boat for $400. I gave exactly $400 for mine and thats just the boat and trailer. Start adding trolling motor, batteries, deck, etc... the money piles up quick. If you take care of it though it will last for years.
