Transducer question
Hello everyone , its been awhile. I was just wondering where is my transducer looking ? Directly under the trolling motor , or out in front a bit ?

It depends on where it is pointing-you want it to point straight down, but occasionally it will angle off a bit.

Well , I cant tell you much about the transducer , it came with the boat. It is a trolling motor mounted trans., it is flat and thin. So if I am looking at the screen on the fish finder , and it shows on the far right a group of fish holding at 14' , then it would be 14' directly below the motor right ?

Tranducer shows in a cone shape no matter which way you put it really. It sounds as though its facing directly down, so it will show anything withing a cone from the transducer to the bottom. Not many people use a 'fish' finder to find actual fish, because when you do find fish, like you said, they are very close to the boat. People use them more to find structure, water temperature, and other factors that will help to determine your fishing style for the day.

Haha, well usually finding structure goes hand in hand with finding fish. So I guess you could say the vice versa, people use it to find fish then determine structure? Either way I've never been on a boat with someone who has a depth finder and watched them run around looking for fish on their finders... unless I was deep sea fishing.

Ah yes GRASSHOPPER.........
You dont see the whole picture. I DO look for fish on the finder. I look for the baitfish........ cause without the baitfish there wont be many bass around.

I look for fish 1st, structure 2nd. I don't see the point fishing nice structure if you're not marking any fish...well, I guess you can wait until they come by.

to answer your question Cmorg I believe what your seeing on the far right of your screen is actually a little in front of your trolling motor provided your going straight and how far in front depends on the angle of view your finder has.
