Darn Sufix!

This is the last time I will try Sufix monofilament!

I attempted to spool some 14 lb monofilament on the Spinnerbait Rod in preparation for fishing today, (no fish, by the way), and this line jumped-off the spool instantly! As I was winding it one, the line pulled one of the numbers where it forms a 'noose'-like curl, preventing the line from spooling properly.

Good thing is I'm going to Cabela's this weekend to get some good monofilament!

i agree with big bassin. try the stren original. thats the only mono ill use, and i also use the 14lb. test in it, which works great!

Try some Maxima Ultragreen in 12 lb.

Oh, and you may have spooled it on backwards, or it may need to be "broke in" a little.

they are made by the same company. isn't it strange how people still like one over the other though. i really don't care for either but if i had to choose one it would be stren.

oh and buzz, i have used a lot of suffix and can't really complain. but like i said earlier i really like p-line better.

Stren and Trilene are made by the same company, but they weren't always. They still make them at different factories and they are different.

I used to use Stren exclusively, until some of the members here convinced me to try Big Game. When I ran out of that I bought Sufix's Elite. I've been using it ever since, and never had a problem. It's the farthest casting mono I've ever used. Their Siege mono and their braid is also great. My best friend was also a Stren loyalist and is now only buying Sufix.

I use different lines for different applications. I use 8 lb. sufix elite for jerkbaits, and finesse baits. I use 12 lb. Big Game for crankbaits,and topwaters, 14lb. XT for Spinnerbaits, and 14 lb. flourocarbon for plastics and jigs.

Both my dad and I have used Stren for all our lives and never had any problems. I tried Trilene XL once, and let me tell you, never again, will i buything with the Trilene name on it. my XL (extra limp, don't think so) had twice the memory of my stren. The XL lasted all of about 15 minutes: 5 to put in on the reel, the 5 I spent fishing with it, and the 5 it took to get it off the reel.

I have not tried Suffix yet, but I have a spool of 10lb Elite to put on my cranking rod.

I am with Patrick on this. I have been using Suffix Elite for 3 years and love it. before yopu can it do this. Put a barrel swivel on you line nothing else. Feed the line out behing the boat with the baot in gear idleing. Then reel it back in at a steady retrieve. I wuill bet it fixes the problem.You had to have twisted the line. Fish2win

My brother and I have a tournament this Sat. and I'm only taking 6 rods. My setup are as follows:Flipping Stick- 17lb XPS FluoroT-rig- 15 lb FluoroClear P-LineC-rig- 15 lb Berkely Big Game w/ Fluoro leaderSpinnerbait- 17 lb XPS FluoroJerkbait- 10 lb FluoroClear P-LineCrankbait- 12 lb FluoroClear P-LineI've pretty much settle with these 3 brands of line. I will use suffix Braid later when I start throwing frogs or flipping mats. Trilene XL is the worst line I've EVER used for memory. I really like the Fluoroclear by P-Line now. I can use it for pretty much anything!

Is this on a spinning reel? If so the # strength line you got is the reason the line in jumping off of the reel. Any mono in that class well just bout any mono will jump off the spool of a bass sized spinning reel.

I do not think I have ever seen line jump off of a baitcast you and that would be a first.

Let us know what reel type you were using and post a pic. I have used 10, 12, and 20# Sufix siege and I haven't experienced what you did. Perhaps a bad batch?

Sorry buzz. This line is one of the best monos I have ever used. Hope you give it a second chance. If if were a spinning reel, I would not go higher that 10# test for any mono line.

suffix is my favorite line for crankbaits and topwater because it will cast so well......anything else that uses mono gets p-line but i would say you had a butt load of line twist for some reason.

Buzz, the red is Elite. I rarely use higher than 10lb mono.and I never have problems. If you don't like the sufix after you try smaller #, try some stren, I garuntee you'll like it.

Don't!!!! You might still experience the same issue. Go down to ten lb and you will most likely be a happier camper. Save whatever you have left for your baitcast reels.

The 10# line will be tough. Just remember that when you start to get to 10# and higher, bass sized spinning reels are more prone to give you greif unless you underspool your reels unless you opt for a bigger sized reel like a 4000. This size reel was made to handle larger lines.
