Default Looking for opinions on the NEW Lowrance DSI's

Looking at the economy versions of the new Lowrance DSI's . In particular the new black and white Mark-5x DSI Gray Scale Fishfinder http://www.basspro.com/Lowrance-Mark...09988/-1753760

Anyone out there tried any of these , are the black and white ones a waste of money , or should I just pony up for the new Elite-5x DSI Color Fishfinder http://www.basspro.com/Lowrance-Elit...09989/-1753761

Looking to upgrade to a new structure scan for the best price available , I am really curious if the color is worth the extra $250 .

NOTE PLEASE DON'T TURN THIS INTO A LOWRANCE vs HUMMINGBIRD CONTEST . I'm just looking for information on these two new models from Lowrance , preferably first hand experience .

I personally wouldn't spend my money on that. I have and HDS5 and will not be putting downscan/SI on it. I feel it is to small of a screen and will not benefit me. I would save for a couple of years and get the HDS8 or 10. My TX partner has two of the 10's with SI and they work great and can have a spit screen. Keep in mind you have to be moving to view it.

Do you already have a GPS/fish finder combo on your boat?

Looking to use the dsi , to locate more deepwater structure . Unfortunately a $800-2000 fish finder just isnt in the budget , or so the wife tells me .

Agree with MIbasser! If you are looking to buy, save a little more.

Plus, what the wife doesn't know won't hurt her.

My question on the DSI is does it always scan in structure scan mode like in the pictures or can it be a normal sonar too...

The Mark and Elite DSIs are downscan only, no 2D sonar.
