Default Works For Me

You know the little metal loop on a bait casting rod that lets you hook your hook into for holding it until you are ready to use the rod again. Seems I kept grabbing the rod right at the hook keeper and would get a prick from the hook. It also seemed my braided line was forever getting snagged on the keeper. I started hooking my hook in the top of my bait caster reel and that put the hook point out of sight and now there was no way to accidentally grab the hook. But the line was still snagging over the little metal hook keeper. I put the rod up against a bench grinder and ground that sucker off. Then I put a little epoxy over the area and sanded it smooth. No more line snags and no more hook pricks.

I've not had an issue with using the hook keeper on my rods at all and I think it's a good addition to any fishing rod. If it doesn't work for you, then your solution resolves the issue certainly. I think I'd have used a pair of wire cutters to remove it rather than a grinder - too many scary possibilities with a grinder getting anywhere near my expensive rods, one miscalculation or slip and I've ruined a $300+ stick, no way.

If it really, truly bothers you, go get a piece of electrical wiring shrink wrap (this will work on most bait casting rods...spinning rods not so much). Slip it over the hook keeper and put a hair dryer on it (or a really quick pass with a lighter if you're really brave). It shouldn't snag anything anymore.
