Default Weekly Lake Fork Fishing Report

Well, the wind has been a factor here at Lake Fork along with changing temps. The cold fronts still are rolling in and changing the bite. The water temp has dropped from 72 to 64 and is back up again as I write this. Today it started in the 64 degree range and came up to 69 or 70. The wind will be switching to the west 25 to 30 tomorrow and this will add a new twist in the bass fishing problem. The One minus and buzz bait are a good starter. The top water pop’r type baits are also good starters. Weightless Wave Tiki Sticks, flukes, Lake Fork Tackle Ring Fries and twitch worms, lipless crank baits, and spinner baits have all been good starters. The Texas and Carolina rigs fish out on the edge of the grass have been good on some nice fish.
The crappie and the catfish are invading the shallows so don’t be surprised if you catch one when you are fishing for bass. The Bowfin AKA Grindel, brown trout, shoe pick are in the shallows and if you catch one don’t lip one or if you do you want do it again as they have some mean teeth. These fish have been researched back to the dinosaur days. They are spawning with the bass and crappie. They put up a good fight so don’t cuss them as they will make your day in the fighting category.
The crappie are in about 5 to 9 foot of water and minnows on corks and small road runner jigs are working to locate and catch them.
Don’t forget the size has to be over ten inches and 25 is the limit per person.
I still have some May dates open and this is the best fishing time of the year. Carolina rigs and Top water. Give me a call if you want to book a trip.
