Default Deer hunting

It's been an eventful bow season thus far! I'm seeing deer almost every time I go out. I saw 11 deer this morning, none within 40 yards though. Shot at and missed a 6 pointer on opening day, he lives for now, but the season's not over with!

Deer is good hunting, but Moose is even better...
Go out to the North one time, and see what a thrill that could be Â*;D

Glad to hear the deer are moving, down here they are swimmin w/ the hogs and fish. Hell if the water gets any deeper I may have to bring a rod/reel instead of a rifle. My little piece of paradise is mid calf to knee deep throughout. Oh well at least I can fish all year. 8)

Zook,
I'm still new with the bow, anything beyond 30 yards is out of my comfort zone...and yes I did get Buck Fever when I missed that shot Lizards. I have never had an adrenaline rush like that in all my life! I guess that's what keeps me going back to the woods.

Looking to take a doe first and get that initial kill so that when I do see the big boy with the huge rack I will be experienced and will know how to keep my cool. Likely won't happen that way but that's my plan.

First off anyone at anytime can get Buck Fever, even the most experienced folks, if they see a HUGE rack. Secondly at least you are able to have a place to hunt, and are seeing deer. That my freind is the key, cuz without that, you just dream about it

lizard is right geek
in all of my years hunting i have shot many big bucks. 6 buck with a bow. i still get buck fever. i missed a huge buck last fall with my muzzel loader because of buck fever. if i did not get that surge of adrenaline. i would quite. just like hooking a good bass a 4 pounder will have my hands shaking like leaf. that to if i did not get that rush i would quite. the idea is to supress the rush till after the shot-then go all to hell-it really anit that hard to do once ya learn how. but than again sometimes it just don't work.

Right on Zook. I figure if I ever get to that point where there is no adrenaline rush, I might as well be at home watching it on tv or something! I don't see that happening any time soon, thank goodness.

Well the deer didn't get close enough for me to get the fever this morning. Â*Saw a nice 6 pointer and big doe about 75 yards away...where I had thought about putting my stand...doink!!! >
They walked away from me and toward my buddy but he never saw them. Â*Oh well, they were beautiful to watch!

PowerBass,
Do you use any sprays at all? I've been using one called Scent Killer, bought it at Wal-Mart (by the way, at the end of the hunting season you can get a lot of this stuff real cheap). I've had deer cross the path where I had walked to get to my stands and none of them have scented me yet so I figure it's working.

actually i go even cheaper bottled-it don't smell- water and 2 tbs of baking soda-arm and sickle-a $1 spray jug from the dollar store. and add a single pine needle or a pinch of wood dirt. i have had deer 5 feet from me never smelled me. i was sneaking in to my stand-err tree house-

wind my butt. power if the crap worked at all he still would not smell you. quick course to be sent free

wash all camo clothing with sent killer laundry soap.
boots leave out side on open porch-watch for rattlers in the south-
moist towletts are your best friend during the hotter weather.
use scent free cover cloth in your truck/car-i use a towel.and use the bakin soda mix described above.
12 feet off the ground is ok. 24 feet is even better. 46 feet will give ya a nose bleed but is pure awesome.

the last 5 years i bow hunted in nc the coolest opening day temp for bow was 97.yes friends i have hunted in 108 degree temps this is how i do it cause it works. mind ya the deer in nc are spooky as all get out. unlike northen deer which are comparetivly dumb.

I never have hunt with a bow but I think hunting with a bow would be way more challenging and harder.

Well I'm headed out again tomorrow morning. It's been raining all day today, about 45 degrees. Supposed to stop raining late tonight and we are on the verge of a warm up so hopefully....

I'll be sitting in a place where I have seen 4 bucks and 2 does, hopefully they choose that path again tomorrow morning. And Zooker, I will be drawing at anything that doesn't draw at me first!!
