Grabbed a Temple Fork Pro series flyrod in #9 4 pc 9'-0 long at Bass Pro Shop. Originally $159.99 for $69.88. Looking forward to giving it a try.

Great deal. Catching bluegills on a flyrod was a blast. Catching bass is probaly a ton of fun too. Good luck.

Dont think a 9 weight is a good gill rod,more like striper,muskie ,cobia,salmon.
I used an 8-9 for bass,stripers and 1 wayward muskie.Its stout compared to a 4-5 wt gill rod.

#4 is my go to for bream.
#6 is my whatever rig.
I figured the #9 will be my heavy duty rig.

Dahlberg diver will do well on it.Stripers,bass and muskie all love it.
Like you ive done 5 wt to 7 weight on trout etc,mostly 5-6 Stimulator out of deer hair number 10 being a favorite
bright yellow goofus bug in about a 16 coming in a close second as easy to tie
I used to tie a lot ,tied in the wva spin method( Messinger),guess my best work was a royal coachman entirely of deer hair floated like a cork,and still looked like a royal coachman.Industrial accident ended my fly tying.
That rod should do you well,very nice rod for actual use or collection,think what an orvis would set you back.If you owned a collectable orvis,or winston etc bet it wouldnt get wet.
Trout in alabama you bet -Sipsey Fork below smith lake,streams in sc nw corner and upper ga, as well.You will have a ball with it on any species,enjoy.

My largest fly rod previously was an 8 wt, and I was planning on getting a 10, but this is too good of a deal. The rod feels sweet.

I played with the one I bought in the pool. It seemed more responsive than my #8 weights and smoother. I talked with the guy who runs that department. He said they are phasing out those models for a newer design. He said the warranty will still be honored and he agreed it was a really good deal. I went back & bought a hardcase for mine. I am looking forward to playing with it soon. Found a good deal on #9 WF-floating line at Academy and had an old reel I could use. I am god to go.

Haha, AU we are tracing each others steps. I went to the academy and they were out of the 9 wt lines, they did have some 10 wt sink tip for like 14, but I dont want sink tip.

I've talked to that BPS flyshop rep a fair amount over the years. Good guy, knows his stuff, and wont try to fill you full of crap about how you have to buy a Sage.

I agree the rod is very responsive, actually it feels every bit as light as my Hobbs Creek 8 wt, which Ive never been happy with and will probably retire. My other experience with a TFO (5 wt) was that TFO seemed to rate their rods on the low end. Over the summer I replaced that TFO 5 wt with a 4 wt Ross, and I swear the Ross is beefier.

I love TFO I have 2 in #4 and 1 in #6. They are good quality in comparison to other under $100 rods. I found the #9 line in Academy on the end of an aisle where they had some clearance items. It was less than $11. I have trouble justifying most of the high dollar rods because my income is not unlimited. TFO suits me.

The Prattville academy seemed to be out, but I'm gonna drop by the gump academy later and see if they have a 9 or 10 wt line. I might overline it. I am gonna be using some pretty big flies on this setup.

That is a very nice score. The Pink Salmon will be coming in the millions this summer in my state. That rod would do some serious damage to them, with pink flies cast from the shores of the Puget Sound near my home. So you coming up here, lol?

Pink is a good color not only in a frog but in flies large ones at that,whooly bugger or dahlberg diver.
You guys are making me want to take the fly rod out.Possibly even buy another hefty one as all I have now are a 5 and a 7 weight.
Dont have an academy nearby.

well dadburnit..now i am gonna have to ALSO get my fly rods in the boat. seeing as mine are OLD, i don't know what weight they are. maybe billy and/or fred can look at them and tell me. i love bass fishing with a fly rod. those dinks feel a LOT bigger on one, hahahaha!!!
