Default The Noob discovers the power of a Jig!

I bought a couple H20 jigs the other day since I've never thrown a jig before. I MADE IT A POINT to throw nothing but jigs for the next couple of days. I caught 4 Bass in 3 hours today. Water temp was in the high 40's.

Here are pictures of the bigger two. I'm officially hooked on JIG's now! I've been missing out.

Same fish below:

Nice fish man! Jig fishing is a lot of fun and very productive! Like bama said, check out ThunderStruck Jigs. Carolina-rig-01 makes some awesome football head jigs! I haven't gotten a chance to try Cabin Fever Jigs yet but I intend to next spring.

Heyyy, congrats on the great lookin bass. AND, I was very pleased to read you spent a couple days throwing JUST jigs. THATS the best way to learn how to use any bait. Take a couple days to go back to school and take only the tools you need to learn that particular application. ^5 Good lesson for all newbies.

I have never had much luck with jigs at the local lakes but I am planning to play with some jigs the next several chances I get to go to one of the rivers here.

I switched to a Strike King swim jig (bluegill colored) with a Zoom swimming fluke in houdini color as a trailer. I caught five healthy fish today with that swim jig.............to include the biggest Bass I've ever caught below:

I didn't have a scale but I'm guessing he was at least 5lbs????? I wear a size 13 boot and that life vest is 21 inches. Can't wait to catch him again this summer.

A couple shots of the same fish:

Last night I was reading a thread where you posted pics of your swimbait trailers on jigs. I rigged up something similar and that was the result -

Yeah I am gonna put the BlueGill and Smokey Shad swim baits on my Christmas list. I am gonna try the Double Diamond Swim Baits as trailers....

Nice fish by the way. I have never caught a decent size fish on a jig... only dinks... and one white bass.

Don't know how I missed this thread, lol. But WAY TO GO MAN! I found jigs to be one of the tougher baits to learn, but you went out and Got-R-Done! I think you need a new jig rod! (by I, I mean the baitmonkey)

Also, thanks for the recommendations guys.

Thunderstruck, Cabin Fever, and Knucklehead are on my to-do list.

The Bait Monkey is powerful, a bit too powerful.

This forum has been useful thus far!

Man it looks like you caught on to jig fishing a lot sooner than most people. There isn't anything I would rather do than catch fish on a jig, it's a lot of fun. Congrats on some great fish!

Thanks man.

Today was a bad day though. Went to the same spot where I caught that 5 pounder at and only caught one dink. Only difference today was that the water was still due to no winds.

I saw those big boys on my fish finder but just couldn't get em today.

Now I gotta learn how to be consistent.

When the water smooths out you gotta get stealthy. Smaller Jigs, trailers with less action, make sure you are using flouro line, and cast out a ways to be sure you are spooking the fish. Then fish S-L-O-W.
