Default used rods, what to look for

I went to Cabelas and saw some used Kistler Heliums for $141.00. What i would like to know is what to look for as far as defects or use. Has anyone bought from them before and can you return them to Kistler if they break or fail to work if I would buy them used.

Kistler's limited lifetime warranty applies only to the original purchaser.

When buying a used rod I first look at the simple things. Like does it have cracks or creases here and there. Like in the reel seat, or along the eyes. I also look to see if there is any space between the butt and the seat or the rod and the seat. Also, I will whip that damn thing back and forth pretty hard, just to see if I can detect any defects that might have been fixed on it. As you mention I will ask about exist warranties, and whatever reel I plan on fishing on that rod I will bring with me and try it out, just to see how it feels. Good fishing.

mtbassman77,
Thanks for the info. I am not buying the used Kistler. Believe it or not a local fishing store near me has all rods at 25% off. That includes Kistler's gloomis, St Croix, etc. I bought a brand new Kistler Helium for $171 and some odd cents tax included. All their reels are 25% off too. Looks like I'll be matching that rod with a new Curado SF. The sale last's till the 23rd. of this month. Too bad all my other Christmas money is spent.
