I came across this. Sounds great. You think the reel setup kind of eliminates long casting? The hole concept sounds great. What do you guys think? Just so you know, I'm not really thinking of getting one, at least not at the moment. But the Monkey can be pretty convincing at times!

I know several people that have one and don't like them. It's sad, but for an american built product, the ardent reels just don't compare in quality to the jap or korean reels.

Look at the "You may also like..." suggestions that Cabela's think are similar(?) to the Ardent on the right. Hmmmm...Ardent vs. Calcutta?

The whole specialty flipping reel thing is kind of gimmicky IMO. I want to flip to one target, pitch to one further away and maybe make a cast without swapping rods.

One great thing about working at Cabela's was I got to play with all the reels, not just the ones I bought. The Ardent rep came in and let us spool up and actually fish all of their reels in the pond by the side of the building. I was not impressed by any of their reels. They all felt heavy and were not very smooth for the price they were asking. I would love to use american made reels but as tight as money is I can't justify spending the extra money on a reel that isn't as good of quality.

I personally think it's a great idea. From what I've heard, you'll either and Ardent or hate it. If it's worth it to you, get it, try it out, if you don't like it, return it in a week.
