Default Current

When people tell me to find the current for summertime bass, where can I find it? Is this just for rivers? Or lakes too. How is there current on a lake? I can understand current being water flowing from the wind.

Most of the time when current in lakes is referred to it is usually a hydroelectric dam opening the gates to generate electricity. Zooker can attest, when generating the fish turn on, and as soon as they close the gates the bite dies. Otherwise, wind generated current is most common. However, some current can be generated in a smaller body of water if there is an overflow release and it gets full.

Flyrod and I fish a lake that always has a little current because the river below is used by tubers floating the river, but it really doesn't seem to effect the fish because it isn't a whole lot of water that gets released.

When you have a little current, always look for places that get narrower, the current intensifies in the bottleneck areas.
