Round reels. How many use them in your arsenal?

My 9 most carried setups are 5600WS Abus,five with 5.3 gears, rest with the stock 6,3. A lot of 5600 c3 an c4 are on standby as loaners an spares. Also use some Records with added bearings. The blue C4s look great on St Croix Legend Tournament rods. Fit my hands an never have any trouble with them. Replace pawls once or twice a year, stock bearings last forever. Level winds get lubed several times a day. Dual bearing level wind and bearing cog wheel helps slightly. Ardent lube to speed up an Garcia oils to make more controlable.

11. 5600WS
7. 5600 c3 (hope I get the 2 back that are loaned out)
2. 4600 c3 with 3 added bearings
4. 4600 c4
2. 4600 mag 5 (do not like)
3. 4600 UC
5. Records, almost to nice to use!
2. 6500 c3 from cat days
several boxes of parts that I had to have an never needed!
All LP reels are being phased out (see for sale forum) including some new in box Shimanos. Toooooo many taking up space!

My preference are round reels, I currenty use calcuttas, 51,101,101gt, and 201. I also fish lp curado and chronarchs. I tend to use my lp's when fishing spinner baits and some of my cranks. Most of my reels have been purchased on ebay at very reasonable prices, as I am very patient and diligent. I do have some abu's but they are for stripes, 7000's.
I was taught on round reels a very long time ago, just as my sons have been, and tend to use them more and lust after (calcutta conquest). Oh by the way, the te101gt is by far the best reel I have ever used or owned.

Man, I'm just not sure on the dc. seems to me water and electrical current don't mix. But I would try one for the right price.

Many of the low pro reels on the market now are as strong or stronger than most of the small sized round reels. I have and use both styles. The Ambassaduer round reels were and still are some of the most durable and easy to work on reels you can find. As a reel mechanic, I've seen the insides of most reels on the market. Many low pro reels such as the revo series, have stronger drags than most similar sized round reels and with the drop side gear cases they now have much stronger gears than the old style low pro reels. For me, the choice comes down to line capacity for the intended use. For long casts, or for fish that will make line pulling runs, you cant beat a round reel.

Round reels are way under rated IMO. I have several ABUs. They are tanks, perform well and respond well to upgrades and tuning. A 4600 C3 is mounted on my custom 7'6" crankin' rod.
