Default Fly Fishing Catagory

What do you think Kevin about the idea. I have scene people passing through asking various questions about flyfishing for bass. I know i my self am quite knowlegable on the topic. Captin Mike has some strength in the area & many more. There is fishing & there is flyfishing. Cabela's & Bass Pro seperate them in there store aswell as on there fourms. It would be neat to have a catagory where people like my self could discuss nothing but flyfishing for bass. It would be cool to deal with someone who knows the difference between a leador & a tippet and the difference between a Fat free shad & Crazy Charlie. If you fly fish please give your support to our own catagory on Kevins fourm.

Kevin has done a great job managing this site. I think that you always need to be careful to not compartmentalize too much discussion. I have seen forums before where you have 30 different boards with 2 threads each - we don't need that here.

I support the idea of a fyfishing section, but I am gonna support Kevin first on this. There isnt a glaring need for a flyfishing section like there was the non-fishing discussion. For those of you who werent here, we used to not have a off topic board - but we had one that was hardly used. There were so many random posts that eventually I said "hey everyone, lets go post all our off topic stuff in the tournament board since it has only 5 threads" and thats how that started. So there is a precendent for this, maybe not a need though.

What ever he does i will gladly respect!!! I my self am a fly fishermen first. I was taught fly fishing at Gramdas on the McCall river in wisconsin. This is my strength this is my life long desire. If it does'nt occur i will be opening more threads talking about fly fishing for bass. Why i love a good baitcaster. I love a fly rod even more. Part of my problem in bass fishing is i don't feal challenged any more. Plus a fight with a 5/6 weight rod will challenge your fish catching skills more than any baitcaster. What i am saying i will be apart of the bass discussion. I will be making more & more of a case of doing it with a fly rod. I love posting here & i will keep it up. I am bored with same old day to day discussions with your average Bassmaster wanna be.

I have been fly-fishing for about 30 years or so...for bass, perch, trout, salt-water, you name it. That being said, I don't see the need for a seperate area for fly-fishermen. If you begin to compartmentalize too much, the comeraderie that has developed here on these boards over the years will begin to splinter.

REALLY? I will keep the rest of my comments to myself...

when i get the time to learn to fly fish and it it on my list of things to learn i wouldn't worry that if i posted a question in the tips and tricks area that no one would answer . i don't think at this time there is a need for another area of the forum maybe in the future yes but it seems that everything works as it is now maybe after seeing this post more people will pose questions about it but until that happens i think everyone is right

I think we'd be better off with something like "Other Species" forum for all the talk about panfish, catfish, trout, salmon, pike, musky, saltwater fish, etc.

Your how old Buzz!!! I have been Bass fishing longer than you have be alive. I don't want to be burned out with it. One reason why i want another angle like fly fishing for bass. As an avid Fly Fishermen first there is a whole another world of fishing that you probably have never scene. It requires 5 time more skill than then slinging a bait caster. You want the bait monkey to bite. Tye some of your own Bass Flies. When making flies buzz the skies the limit. You can make stuff to catch fish that is'nt even in production. Bass fishing with bait caster is limited. Fly Fishing is only limited to your skill & imagination.

I sorta like a separated fly board but it will cause me pause.. Let me splain Lucy.

If I have a trip where one guys fishes with a fly and one with spinning rod do I post pictures in the fly section or the regular section?.

No lets keep it the same so we expose the muddled masses to a higher level of incompantincy in fish prowless.

I agree with Moose. I love Bass fishin, but I do get sick of it from time to time, and so I switch to lighter tackle, fly, other species, etc... As for a seperate section, I personnally don't see a need for one........

I here yeah mike. But where do i post when talking about spey rods. Many on here would have no known concept of what spey fishing is even about. It would be neat having our own section where my bass fly fishing brothrens can meet an talk & not tying up other area's on the form where other people are going UUHHHH!!!

Do people spey cast in America? I ran into people over in Scotland who swore by it and laughed at my 8.5 foot 5 wt, but I've never even seen one in the states.

Hell ya they do.. I have borrowed one and the learning curve was quick..

I caught flounder blues and sea trout in the surf with in a 20 minute learning session..

If you can roll cast you can use a spey..
If can dodge a ball you can dodge a wrench..

Well all this would be great, the question is would yall really be willing to discuss the techniques of the spey cast, double haul, nymph fishing, fly tying or whatever else that most boards dont delve into. But I would love the opportunity to hear more experienced flyfishermen describe in detail such things, even if I don't have an immediate use for all of it.

I posted my spey out fit over on the New reel thread. That i am getting. A 2 handed cabelas spey rod with a sage reel. That whole rig cost less than the loomis rod alone.
