Default Improved Blood Knot!

I'm getting so angry and frustrated because I can only tie this knot once in a while. Almost every time I try, one of the lines, usually the one on my right side, slips out from the twists! Someone please help!

Uni to Uni Knot:

MUCH easier to tie than the Blood Knot.

Lol. Did you get that from PowerPro's website?
I was just on there. I'll try that.

Thanks

is the j-knot stronger than the uni to uni? cause with the uni-uni when i tie braid to flouroclear it looks like the braid cuts the flouro when it breaks ad the breaking strength seems a lil weak for 12 lb line, braid is 15

I tried the J Knot, and somehow I got it to work. It's a little too confusing for me to keep doing that. I like the uni to uni better. So the uni to uni is basically tying two improved clinch knots together? Wouldn't that not be very strong?

It will do the job. As will the J knot and the surgeons knot. Flyrod is a big believer in the J knot. I haven't decided yet which one I prefer. For adding line to a reel-not a leader-all I use is the Uni-to-Uni knot. Adding a leader-J knot, Surgeons knot and I learned a new one the other day I'm going to try:

I slightly super-glued the uni to uni knot, and now the knot catches onto my guides and I can't make a smooth cast.

What can I do to fix this. If this combination of line will really help, I'm willing to only have a 12" leader and retie every 2-3 times I switch baits. How much line do I really need to properly present a soft plastic?

Joolz-is it carching on the cast or getting hung up? They will all catch a little. If it is getting hung you might try a surgeon's knot:

Thanks Reb. I will try that. It is actually getting hung up. I need to go to the tip of my rod and manually take the knot out from the guide.

Will I even be able to make an accurate pitch with a surgeon's knot?

Ahh... Soo much better. Thanks Reb. My leader is now 4'6". Is that okay? The long leader is just so that you don't have to keep tying a knot to connect knots.
P.S. - I'm going to change my signature to "Thanks Reb." Lol

Can yewsay....WUSSIES?
J-Knot forever! J-Knot for President! J-Knot for Pope! J-Knot for Easter Bunny!

Jools,
Man up! (or turn in yer man card.)
I type my fingers to the bone to guide you in the path of righteousness. I adopt you as my own and rewrite my will so that you will receive the Fabulous FlyRod Fortune (and a few bags of odd soft plastics) upon my passing and, once again, yer looking for the easy way out.
No! Do NOT settle for a 12" leader. Bite the gunpowder-driven projectile and buy some P-Line Fluoro-bleepin-Carbon Leader Ma-frickin-terial, practice the J-Knot until your stubby and grubby little fingers bleed (using mono and old braid), and then apply a 6 foot leader (see: Bold print two lines above) to your combat braid.
Now go to your room and forget about participating in the Easter Egg Hunt!

Dang!

Grouchy Uncle Fly

PS: I'm in yer base, eating yer chawklit rabbit!

Jim Beam? I wouldn't use that for cleaning reels! Maker's Mark for me, sonny!
The mother/daughter team downstairs brought me some chawklit goodies and a stuffed toy...a Platypus!..for Easter, so well as a hug and smooch from each...but no booze. Besides, I already have Tanqueray gin (Martinis B4 dinner) and Maker's Mark (after dinner) so all is well. I'll gladly share with you, Recon.

Happy Eggster!

FR
