Default catching crayfish for bass bait

Cut the tops off some jugs so the sides still bend in at the top. Bury the container in a gentle stream or cove, leaving about a half inch of the jug exposed. Punch a number of holes in a can of fish based catfood and place in the bottom. Let stand overnight and check your traps in the morning. When finished catching, remove the jugs and either dispose or take home.

Fishing with bait for bass works pretty damn well. Bass love small live minnows, but it is a LOT slower.. like fishing a worm.

I didn't see where anyone said you HAD to fish with live bait. If you don't want to. Don't.

I agree with Keeb, fishing with live bait can be slow. When I was a kid we would use live minnows, and it took a long time to get a bite.

Fishing with live bait is like playing a computer game with cheat codes. It’s still cool and a lot of fun but the reward seems a little tasteless.

Just imagine how S#!# it must feel to catch the largest bass of your life on live bait!
I would always think of it as a great topwater opportunity lost

I wouldn't mind catching the biggest bass of my life on live bait. Just what would be wrong with it?

I like the fact of fooling a bass with artificial lures. When using live bait have the skill required to let the bass bite depends on the little fishy on the other end.

I know what you mean, a big bass is never a bad thing.

Kinda silly but just me, seems to be more ethical in a way.

half the time with lures your not even fooling the bass your PISSING HIM OFF. he wants that silly contraption the heck out of his home turf. i am more and more convinced with every outing that bass are more fighters than feeders. and so i use more artificial lures than anything else predominatly topwaters buzz and spinners but every once in a while i start seeing my kids pulling in fish when i can't buy a strike. and what are my kids using??? live bait. Well i could go through my always growing tackle box and use every lure size color and presentation i have learned here and on the water or i could bow to what the fish obviously want and throw the live bait and land fish. and in my limited fishing area and time i really cant be picky the bass do that enough for all of us. it may be slower because your not presenting that fast noisy retieve to get a reaction strike but when it bring in the fish who cares. use what works whatever that may be.
wow this got long quick im gonna shutup now ;D

That's a great idea. I love crawdads...mmm....mmmmm...some cajun spices and "poof" you have a meal. Now does someone feel that it's not ethical to eat them as well. Should I release them? Afterall I did trick them into the jug. Just fanning the flame.

How does a tip for catching crawdads turn into a thread on live bait vs. artificial bait ethics? Thanks for the tip.
