Default Interesting Finish

Bought a bottle of nail polish at Wal Mart to use in finishing white jigheads with a pearl type glitter. Stopping at the baitshop on the way home, Big D wanted to try it, but only had a jig with a black finish. He painted over the black and produced a very striking Blue glitter finish with an occasional purple cast. Hard to figure, in the bottle you see pearl with a light green glitter....but an any rate, it's certainly worth a try if you are interested.

The bottle was 96 cents, is named N.Y.C. brand and the color number is 101A (White Lights Glitter).

Thanks for the info. I use nail polish for many jigheads and knotting lines for fur jigs.

Fish on, Inquisitive people want to know how in the world did you start painting jigs and by the time you finished, your toe nails were painted as well ?Don't listen to everything JB types. He may have tattoos , but he doesn't really paint his toenails tournament day to psych his competitors out. P N J

yer right pnj,
I am a freak, and don't anyone dare listen to my words rofl heh
seriously tho, a cheapie bottle of red nail polish used to spinnerbait lead and some crankbait, to give that little red gill look, often is a cheap way to enhance your lures.
My only drawback with polish is that the smell of paint lingers days after you paint them.

Nail polish in colors or clear have a lot of uses. Clear is great for sprucing up scratched Rapala finishes and there are all the colors in the rainbow to paint stripes, gills, patterns and anything else. (What's wrong with doing one's toenails for luck? It's not as if I'm fishing on Brokeback Mt. lol)

Default The smell factor....

Last Wednesday morning, I painted a few small black jigheads with the nail polish. Thursday, about noon, while trolling one of these jigheads with a white/chart grub, caught and landed a three pound rainbow. I realize this isn't a bass, but am thinking that sometimes we overdo the thinking, myself included.

If the fumes linger in the house, it's a probability that the overcoat of nail polish softened the paint underneath and took several days to cure. To speed things up, including the curing of epoxy, simply hang the painted items in the oven and set the dial to Warm........ Usually 20 minutes will cure the finish.

At any rate, hope this helps and Good Fishing, Mac

I had me the bright idea of using my wife's hair dryer when I first started painting my bullet head sinkers black, and I used to put little red dots on them too for eyes...

Haha. I use to paint crankbaits with nail polish before I bought my airbrush. Nail Polish was great on crankbaits and caught about 30 fish on the one I made with nail polish. Clear coats of nail polish are great for hair jigs or when I tie feather treble hooks but I like epoxy because it is more powerful.

Clear coat is a usefull thing to take along with you fishing. When I have paint chip off a plug I just cover the chipping area with clear coat to minimize the damge and fish on.
