What size hook did you start with ? I would most likely use between a 5/0-6/0 hook .
Btw welcome to the forum .

I throw a lot of 12 and even 18 inch worms out this way. I use 5/0 EWG's but will add a stinger. My hookup ratio increased a lot once I added one.

if they are nipping at the tail and carrying it you may put an extra fish in the livewell

How do you rig the stinger hook? I just picked up a couple 15" worms and wondered about that.

I have been useing 2/0 with 5 & 7 inch worms. Have been thinking of moving up to 3/0 maybe 4/0 for these smaller worm to increase my hookup. What do you guys think? Will these bigger hooks take too much action from my small baits?

I know this thread is about about bigger baits. Thought I would throw this out there anyway.

5/0 or 6/0 forsure
it will increase ur hookup rate bigtime over a smaller 4/0 or 3/0 hook

I use a 3/0 wide gap hooks they work real good.I was fishing 10" ribbon tail worms this summer and the fish were hiting all the time.
But now they won't get them at all.I had to down size and work it reel slow.We have had several cold fronts come in and thats probably why.

I tie another line to the big hook eyelet and put a small treble near the back, one hook in the body, 2 exposed

5/0 EWG Gamagatsu with an 1/8 oz bullet weight T-rigged in shallow to medium water if not too windy. The worm is heavy and bulky enough. You don't need a big weight. If fishing deep or in high winds I'll go up to a 3/16. Peg it if fishing in heavy brush piles. Try a Berkley Power worm in June Bug. My favorite 12 in worm.

Sun fish will often nip at that Culprit tail. You may be experiencing some of that.

The largest worm I use is a 10 inch worm.

Hookerz makes a series of heavy duty 3.5X flippin hooks "The 3.5X carbon steel wire can withstand the rigors of braided line hooksets. The large barb makes hook removal with pliers almost mandatory". Sizes range from 3.0/0-7.5

All my hooks are Hookerz hooks. Great hooks, great prices, and just great service. The only hooks I use that aren't Hookerz are Gami 1 & 1/0 Drop Shot hooks.

I do almost the same, but instead of tying another line on, I just use the slack from my palomar knot. I wil thread it through the body with a large sewing needle. This does not do much for the life expectancy of your bait, but has helped me considerably on hook ups.

I was wondering how you threaded the line through the body. I did think about using the extra line from the palomer knot. KVD mentioned doing this with a drop shot rig in his video.
