Default take a guess......

well the boat dealership called. it seems they are finished with the tune up on me 200 hp optimax. anyone want to take a guess at how much $ we are talking? here are the details:

1. 6 sparkplugs
2. new water pump kit (pump, imp., plates)
3. lower unit lube
4. 3 hrs of shop labor (and they must be really proud of their guys)

i will find out the final cost when i go get her tuesday.

Default Price

Labor 85.00 x 3 = 255
Plugs 36
Lower unit Oil 18
6 plugs 35
Water Pump kit 79.00

$390. Just a guess but labor in these places are crazy. Sad part is if they charge $85 an hour the mechanic is only and I am speculating her but prob about 12 to 18 an hour.

talk about a rip off. Makes you want to go out and buy a boat dealership. If a guy could combine boats and Harleys together he/she could make a killing. I live in Central, KY and on a recent vacation to Gatlinburg Tenn, in a 107 mile strech of interstate my wife and I counted over 80 boats and 200 motorcycles. And that is just what we could see heading north. You do the math. I do love my boat though and am usually happy that the dealers keep it running so smooth.

i hate dealerships and there costs..no reason for it.
they make you think things have to be done my a certified dealer when in actuality they dont. i been there.........i was a mechanic i got out of the buis i didnt like lying to the customer cuz as a customer i didnt like being lied to.

get a book you;ll see things are within your reach and save your hard earned money.

Carolina you live not far from whee my mother lives ........she lives in Aurora....just southwest of Springfeild. Anwyas you coulda saved yourself a ton of money. Water pump impellar kit plugs gear lube and all woulda cost ya around $75 and the time taken woulda been around 2 hrs for someone with little expeience. Anything goes wrong with that motor gimme a holler man. I dont have a problem helping ya out and neither does the other guys on the board.

Did they check the setting of your EPU? I usually do all the listed above but I took mine in last year for a checkup they ajusted my EPU checked the lower unit (presure test) and found a leak so they replaced the seals and checked it through cost me so $$$$ but less then it would have if I would have ran it any longer.

Labor is incredible for working on outboards. And to think, they probably drug their feet and took 45 minutes to put in 6 spark plugs. Unreal.

I'll put it this way. You probably just spent more on that tuneup than I have spent on my entire motor and steering system. And peace of mind? I remember before I had ever done any work myself on my truck, I had no peace of mind in regards to automobiles or outboards...if something went wrong, I was forced to pay a mercenary. When I was a sophomore in college I paid the local crook mechanic $200 to clean the throttle body on my explorer. I didn't know better. But now I do have peace of mind. Short of internal engine damage or transmission problems on the truck, I am confident I can at least screw around with something long enough and get it working again.

well i should have told you that there was more to the story than just a tune up. i got an overheat alarm twice last time i was out and wanted it checked into. turnes out it was a bad set in the waterpump which i told him to change regardless so it was no extra money. plus he ran a ddt scan. laser i didn't know your mom lived in aurora, that's where my bass club is out of. got a lot of good friends from down around there. if you ever make it up this way let me know and we may go to table rock or something.
