Default The passing of a legend

It is with heavy heart I share this post with you. My childhood hero has passed away. I met him at age 10, and he was one of the most sincere and genuine men I have ever met. He will be missed.

Tom Mann passes 2/13/2005
The Eufaula Tribune reported that fishing legend Tom Mann died Friday night at the age of 72. Cause of death was reported to be complications from heart surgery performed earlier this week.

Mann fished BASS events for 17 years and competed in seven Bassmaster Classics. With a $5.00 investment, he and his wife Ann started Mann's Bait Co. in 1958. It grew to become one of the most successful bait companies in history.

He also founded and operated Allied Sports Co., which manufactured Humminbird electronics. The company was later renamed Techsonic. In addition, he founded Southern Plastics in 1977.

Funeral services are said to be Tues., Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Eufaula. Visitation is earlier that afternoon between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. A memorial service may also take place later in the week.

BassFan will soon look at Tom Mann's career and the tremendous impact he had on the sport.

One of the most important events of my life occured because of him. I caught my very first bass on a Mann's Jelly Worm 6" Black W/ firetail on Rodman Reservoir in 1976. I was 5 years old and I remember that day as if it were 10 mins. ago.
Thank you Tom Mann, you will be missed. :'(

I didn't know it when I was at Wally World today, and bought 4 Mann's -1 He's still affecting the fishing world after his passing and will continue to for ever, from his work on fishing, till he passed.

11, caught it on a 6" grape Jelly Worm in a local pond.
First bass I ever caught on a plastic worm.

Sure hate to hear that-he had a major impact on the sport we all love. Â*Thanks for the heads up,
Charles.

I reckon this is appropriate:

A BASS FISHERMAN'S PRAYER

Almighty and all loving Father,
We fishermen thank thee
For thy blessings of thy great outdoors,
Especially for the privilege
to pursue our sport
as free men and women in a free nation.
And we especially thank thee
for thy son Jesus,
who so loved fishermen
that he chose four or more
among His twelve Apostles.
And in years to come, Dear Lord,
as each Bassin' man comes to thee,
Please remember these are a special breed.
Their spirits would not be content
to walk Alabaster streets.
Grant them instead
Clean water with a quiet chop
with enough honey holes
to last an eternity
and a Bassin' Buddy to share it with.
In Christ's name,
Amen.

That is a tragedy. :'( He created an awesome company, and did great things for the sport. He will be missed. I remember the 1st tournament I fished, fished with my uncle John, some of the guys were asking if I was related to the guy that started Mann's Bait Co. - I wish! Tell you the truth, I don't know. Tight lines, Justin Mann
