Try going to your neighbors that have a boat that you would like, and that they don't use. Ask if they would sell it to you. If you find someone, you have a good chance of it being a lot cheaper than people that know the price they want for their boat.

I have asked a few times for free. I missed one opportunity. I am pretty sure somebody moved and left there boat to the new owners. My friend and I would have left it at his grandma's lake or something. My theory was that if I could get one for free, how could I go wrong.

I would go up to there door knock (usually with fishing rods because I saw the boat when I was fishing) nd...
"Hi"
"I have noticed the boat you have in your backyard, and was wondering if you still used it."
Depending on the response...
"I would love to have it if you don't use it or I would be willing to buy it from you." or just "I would be willing to buy it from you."

I don't know about asking for it for free. I never got that far. That is tough. Go with the flow of the conversation.

Good luck!

P.S. Aluminum boats are less stable than other kinds, but they still work pretty well. The benefit is that they are lighter. If it is free or cheap, I would get it. Just thought you might want to see what similar boats cost for a refence. A new 10' Tracker jon boat is $419, a 9 foot pond prowler is $590, and an 8 foot pond prowler is $520. You also have to factor in battery, which I got at BPS for $35-$40, and trolling motor, probably at least $95 new.

If you wait for a sale, they can be a little cheaper. I forgot to mention... you might want to add a clamp on seat. Check BPS for that too. I know my friend has them. I will ask him how he likes them.

Basshunter came out with a small boat 8'-9' with seats. I have one and with a twenty pound thrust trolling motor (thats right I said twenty) they move pretty good. I can fish a small lake in first gear in about 6 hrs. This motor has five speeds. If you can find one they are pretty cheap compared to other boats of the same size. Basshunter boats are listed on the computor.
Granted, mine cost $200.00 but that was on a clearance sale.

The pond prowler comes with seats. In the pond prowler, wires run through the boat, the motor is in the front, and the battery is in the back. It involves a plug. If you decide on that, I will give you the

You will probably want a swivel if you get a boat without them, but you can always add that later. The clamp will clamp the new seat to the factory jon boat seat. There are ways to mount the trolling motor in the front of a jon boat too. If you get one, or want to know, I can give you more details on that too.
