When is the line overrunning? If it is at the end of the cast then you need to add more braking. If it is at the beginning then it is the spool tension knob and if it is all of the way tight then there is something wrong with the reel.
Just use it for flipping or pitching and get a different one for casting.

add some brake and teach yourself to feather the spool with the thumb during and at the end of the cast...baitcasters and drag and other components will differ with changes in weather and humidity

if it's a diawa the drum that comes out to the magnets may need lubing.

Now I have a question along the same line. I have several baitcasters and am having the same problem. When I adjust the brake it helps sometime. My question is where do I adjust the tension knob at? Is that located by the reel handle? Thanks

yes.adjust it so when the rod is out the lure falls slowly down and stops when it hits bottom.you can loosen it as your thumb gets better.on the other side you either have a centrifugal brake with pins or a magnetic brake with a dial.if you have six pins start with them all on and take them off one by one.start a magnet at about 7 out of ten on the dial.if you backlash at the start of the cast you need more magnets or pins engaged.if you backlash in the middle you need more spool tension or thumb.
