Any luck with the "subwalk"
I bought a few Rapala subwalks over the winter after watching a episode of "anglers edge". Now im normaly not the type to buy some lure just because Al, kevin, skeet, who ever .... is promoting it but these things looked awesome. Ive been throwing gliders for muskies forever and figured if they work for skis why not bass.... well i havent caught a single fish on these damn things. So my question is.. when, where, and any other helpfull tips. they just gotta work. maybe i just havent given them the time they need.

Bought two of them when they first came out. Tried them a couple of times and nothing. I guess sooner or later if you keep fishing them you might catch something.

I didn't care for them too much. I'm not too good at walking the dog and count on being able to see the bait to make sure it's walking right. So I can't see the subwalk and that's why I don't really use it.

I have a couple...thrown them a bit, but like others, I still haven't caught anything on one. Hoping for this fall when it cools off a bit.

I would be wiling to bet money they would work especially well if cast into a school of bass busting shad at the surface. I often catch shad busting bass on a Super Spook Jr walkin the dog through shad busting bass. I would think the Subwalk work work equally well if not better.

I don't know if this will help or not, but last summer I bought a Glidin' Rap, which is a larger, but similar bait.
Because of some arthritis, my idea was to have a bait the I could cast with bass equipment while my friend cast more traditional musky lures with heavy tackle. I tried this glide bait around rocks, rocks with sparse weeds and between weed beds etc. What I caught was big bass...In fact I caught fish in one area where another boat had just left! It might have been a fluke, but I now have a lot of confidence in that bait. My technique was to use a slow jerk-bait type cadence, starting and ending each pull with slack in the line, so the bait would glide one way then change direction on the next tug...An underwater walk-the-dog. |
