Default Decoding topo map

Are there any sites (other than the BassFishin.com video) that will show me how to find out what everything means in a topo map? I just read that you can see creek channels and ditches in a topo map...how the heck do I do that?

Mostly, the legend on the map should tell you. Without a legend, a map is nothing more than an ambiguous sketch.

The topos I find for WA lakes are just lines...no legend other than distances
