Default Earthquake

Aound 1:50 PM, a 5.9 quake originated around Richmond, VA. I was out in my truck and never felt it, no cell phones working, system is overloaded, SURPRISE. News is saying it shook about 25 seconds which is a long time.
No damage to anything I can see. Biggest geological event in my lifetime and I drove through it . . . . . wish driving through chine walk was this easy.

I'm in Hartford, CT and I felt it. Very minor but the building shook. First one I've ever experienced. Very weird feeling.

Default "Quake" Lake

Pic taken by a friend who was on the lake when the earthquake hit. Said the water rippled but the boat shook. New nickname for the radiated mudhole.

Smoke from North Anna Nuclear Power Plant.....hopefully it was from the back up generators that kicked on to circulate water.

No damage to my house but a few things ended up on the floor like the DVD's that fell off the television.

Friend who lives in Mineral had his chimney in his shop collapse. Said it felt like a jet went supersonic over his house except it came up through the ground.

Question.... so let's say you are fishing when something like an earthquake hits.. what does that do to the baromic pressure? Does fishing get really good for a short period of time? Has anyone done a study on this...?

I've always hear that fishing get's good before an earthquake and really bad after one. Not a scientific study, but as earthquakes are hard to predict it wouldn't surprise me if this hasn't ever been studied.

Depends somewhat upon location,reelfoot(1812) didnt exist prior so fishing got better afterward since no lake prior.New Madrid fault is due one.

Spoke with a guide who said he did well that morning. Heard that another fisherman did even better that evening. Next day the guide said he didn't do well at all. Sounds like normal fishing.....

Don't think the earthquake affected barometric pressure. But it will stir up the bottom of the lake which can cause a ripple in the food chain which may increase the bite a little. Kind of like churning up an area in a grass bed and coming back 20 minutes later to catch fish....
