Hope not. Those reservoirs get enough pressure as it is.

I heard the same, but have not been able to confirm it. Will see tomorrow. Yes they do get alot of pressure but rather see bass boats than jet skis and ski boats.

Man what a brute! It's a shame that a simple weigh in on a certified scale won't do for the record books. I think they did the right thing, but I know that would have been a very hard choice to make.

Ah yall got it before me! I just got it and read the article. What a fish. I love how he said he had to put it in the live well and take 10 minutes to freak out. I would have done the same. Hell I probably baby the bass and create the smoothest ride possible for him on the way back to the docks. 27 inches... goodness I cant believe the hype I would feel. I might possibly Iaconelli the whole lake... everyone would hear me.

As for putting it back... That would be a tough one. I would say right now at my young age. I probably would've kept it. I don't think I could let that one go. I love looking at my 21 incher on the wall (first big bass I had ever caught).

As for the TWRA. I think it was a little extreme. A good reliable/ "certified" scale" and two witnesses, and small blood sample should be enough. As far the dorsal fins I am kind of confused. Are those just to gauge a size? As if a picture and tape wouldn't be satisfactory? Also, when they say clippings are they talking about just taking off some of the dorsal fin or all? Still confused on that rule.

All in all great fish. And props to the guy who let it go. I have never fished Pickwick... it's a little far from me when DHL is a stones throw away. But if I ever had the chance. Id try it out!

It takes a pretty good sport to turn that fish loose.

I think the tennessee regulations regarding blood samples are a little overboard too. You aint marrying the fish.

Anyone know what they hope to learn from this sample?

I was thinking the same thing. Honestly, the only thing I can think of is to make sure the person who caught it didn't shove lead weights down its throat. But, seriously TWRA no one would do that. I think there is a big deal of trust.. and I think that trust might be going away sadly.

Odds are, that fish will be dead within a year. It has lived out its lifespan, as evidenced by its huge size. Add in the trauma of being caught, and it might die anyway. What we have here is foolishness masquerading as sportsmanship. I'm sure these guys only had good intentions, and of course they are free to do as they wish, but I think they missed out on the record books unnecessarily. That pig has already "passed on its genes" many, many times.

I'M SORRY, really I'm sorry, but that darn devil got in my head and tried to force me to jump all over that one. That was just too ripe to go unplucked, but Bryce is a pal, and the force of my own strong will won out. For now................. oh the temptation.............

Now now, Bruce. I am not even close to the world, nor even the state record for a human male. So your point is moot.

Great fish! I have no idea what I would of done about release. But I do know that you would have add like 15-20 minutes for my stop for a bathroom break to clean myself and pants up.

You're fast Bryce, I changed the post entirely as I thought the orginal may have been too harsh - even for me. But you caught it.

Gentlemen, I would like to add with no scientific back ground to prove my point. If you catch a fish like this and intend on a release. Help support the fish by placing a hand under her belly. That is some serious jaw stress there.

I would guess they just want to verify that it is in fact the species of fish that it's being entered as. That was a largemouth doesn't get entered as a spot ect. Just my guess though, only thing that made sense to me why they'd do it. I don't think I could have kept it either just to have my name on a piece of paper. I would know I caught it and others would too and I believe that would be good enough for me.

Yes thats a lot of pressure on the jaw.Such fish should always be supported like as under belly not hung up by the jaw.
3 baits three hooks large enough to catch bass on etc.more than 3 1 hook or hooks under size 6 like as in a crappie rig.love to see a pic of what he used.Blades are considered teasers or additional baits.

Unknowingly he may have lost a chance for some cash - if he was using Mustad hooks. They have a promotion going on, catch a State or World record on a Mustad and win $$$.

I would think he would have had additional chances for cash as well.
That would be some pretty great advertising for the maker of the rod/reel/line/bait.

If it ever happened to me (pfffffft), I'd be callin every company involved

And on the a-rig to boot... any questions as to whether the a-rig is here to stay should be answered.

I think NFE made a pretty good point, and it's something I think about every time a "might have been" fish is released.

To be that size in Tennessee waters, that has got to be a very old fish. There's no guarantee it will live another week, let alone spawn or be caught again. Maybe he should have considered taking it to a BPS.

In any case, kudos to the fisherman. That's the catch of a lifetime for sure.
