Paddle Tail vs. Ribbon Tail

Which is your favorite and when do you decide to put one on over the other?

I use them both, and I like them both. I like the paddle tail when the water is murky or stained. If you give it a long, slow pull, you can feel the vibration from the tail through your rod. It gives the fish something to key in on when visibility is low.

The ribbon tail is an old standby and I fish them a lot, although I prefer clearer water for them than the paddle tails.

I usually stick with the paddle tail except when fishing water 15 foot or deeper. I think that the riboon tail will help to slow the decent. I also feel that the action of the ribbon comes in to play more on the further drops.

I have been fishing the Zoom vibe tail a lot last year and this year in a watermelon color. I feel like Nitro about letting them give off vibration in stained water, but I have done well on them in clear water, too. I seem to do better when I turn the tail veritical, too. I have tried both ways, horizontal and vertical, but I seem to pick or more fish and feel the vibration better vertical. Maybe that is the way they are supposed to be fished. I never took long enough to read the pack.

yeah when the water is dirty the vibration helps them find it with their lateral line...

By paddle tail do you mean like a mans jelly worms or like on a swimbait?

I like both. When fish are in aggressive mode I throw a ribbon ones and a staight or paddle tail when they're not.

I like the ribbontail a lot especially in summer when the water is hot.I Fish it around any shallow cover I can find. I have never fished a paddletail worm.

I;ve neaver used them, because I thought that they had very little vibration, as oposed to the ribbon tail worms. I'll have to get some of those!

I prefer to use a ribbon tail, usually black/blue 7"...I don't use paddletails much at all, if I want something different I will trim some off the end of my senko's to give it more action

I prefer a ribbon tail worm simply because that all I've ever really used. For several years all my 7 & 10 inch worms were Berkley Power worms. This year I've switched to Strike King's Anaconda line. They look awesome.

I know it might be a little off center for the thread, I use the ribbon tail predominantly, but have had good success on the paddles lately. But a hot color going for us is the Culprit Fire & Ice. I am not big on flashy colors, but when I watched my buddy boat 3 fish at 6, 8, and 9, I started using them. My biggest on 1 is about 6. And they have been a fish catcher. Maybe they are just like parachute pants and will fade with time on the fish, but they are hot for the south and catching better than average fish. No dinks allowed on this one. I probably just jinxed it though by posting this.
