trolling moter rope tricks

i was out err scratching an itch as it were this morning. on a local pay lake.-7 bucks to launch-just doing the normal run and gun style fishing. about 11 am i was going to do a short hop to a cove opening. i reached down and gave the tm rope a pull. i came back with a handle and a chunk of rope.OH ****!!! seeing i was on a roll catching 5 bass. it really sucked having to go to the launch. after i got the boat home. i ran down to the huge city of denton during rush hour-thats 2 cars and a dog-i went to a local chain saw shop and got me 8 feet of #6 nylon pull rope. ok it aint pretty it was white but it is the same size as the factory pull rope that cost 20 bucks from moter guide. i got all 8 feet for $7.50 all i had to do was re run the rope and cut it off. mind you that was the toughest part of the whole thing .

i did that 2 weeks ago but i pulled kinda hard and the rope snapped and i ended up doing a backward summersault and bent the windshield on my boat. hurt like hell. retieing them things are a pain. i just got some nylon rope and it is already fraying so i need to figure out a trick on how to protect it.

Just replace it. Had the same thing happen. Got some nylon rope the same diameter, threaded it into the TM and tied a knot in that end, then took the handle, used a small phillips head screwdriver to punch the plug in the handle out, threaded the rope into the hole, tied a double overhand knot and replaced the plug. Took about 10 minutes and cost next to nothing.

if the line is freying, take a lighter and burn the tips of the rope.

I replaced mine with a piece of 1/8" Kevlar rope. It should outlast both the boat and I. Another option is to get a piece of steel cable, covered with a plastic sleeve, and put that on with a couple of crimp connections.

it frays right where the rope comes up from the bottom of the tm. and it is a royal pain to get the rope tied to a loop that is inside of a housing with nearly no room to move the rope.

oh, well i have no idea about the trolling motor ropes, just know how to stop fraying.

Yep, it happens every so often. I have (since the first time), just keep the spare rope on the boat with me. Then it takes a knife and a couple of minutes to fix it. I do like Cajun's idea though 8) Cable means hopefully no more worries

get you some plactic covered wire cable. it will be smaller in dia than the rope just as flexibble and last forever did that two years ago and it still dosen't show signs of wear.. i will be replacing the rope on the new boat this fall with it.
