Default Question about Spinnerbaits

To this day I have never caught a bass on a spinnerbait! Does the hit feel the same on a spinnerbait as it does on a plastic worm or lizard. If not what does it feel like?

Notice where your worm was lying when they hit it.A spinnerbait doesn't lay on the bottom. That is the first step on knowing what the fish wants for the day, always try a spinnerbait , They will still catch a fish once in a while when the bottom bite is going on. P N J

Yeah, All I do is cast them out in various places ranging from weeds to open, and reel them back in at different paces and speeds.

Is it true that they work better when kept towards the top of the water?

there it is again...the word ''best''....what i want everybody to do is not say ''best'' when it comes to bass fishing...[glow=red,2,300]THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS BEST IN BASS FISHING!!!!!!!!!!![/glow] some times...it is GOOD to burn it near the top, other times it isnt. find what the fish want, then stick to that 8)

Feel better, 02 ;D?

Try fishing it as close to cover as you can-if it is something solid try hitting it as you retrieve past it. Bring it back close to an ambush point so the fish doesn't have to move far to get it.

i usualy vary my retrieve speed during a single cast, ill start out somewhat fast and when i know im coming up on an area that has some cover( over some rocks for example) ill slow it down a tad bit .. i was using this strategy last week and caught a few nice ones

bump it around any cover you know is present. the momentary pause in the retrieve can trigger a bite. Â*Try burning it just under the surface. Try slow rolling it on the bottom. Or you can just plain reel them in. For my all around workhorse spinnerbait, its a Strike King 3/8 oz bleedin bait series, chartreuse with a willow leaf main blade with small colorado. best of both worlds. flash and vibration. Â*My muddy water bait is a Booyah 3/8 oz in black and red with a huge Colorado blade, which gives me a ton of vibration. Â*Just different things i apply to my spinnerbait fishing. Also, if you try burning lighter spinnerbaits, they sometimes wont ride the way you want. go to a heavier one or add weight to the spinnerbait.

lol my lord...sex and spinnerbaits...does it get any better?

Something not mentioned yet is if you are reeling and the blades stop vibrating set the hook. This usually means the fish took it and started running toward you.

It just plain sucks when the bass takes the spinnerbait swimming towards you and you miss it. Its a great way to not feel the bite and its hard as crap to set the hook well.

I got laid today... and then I went out fishing for a good 6 hours. I tried for an hour and a half on a spinnerbait, and nothing. I, as well, have never caught anything on a spinnerbait, and it's not like I haven't put in the time or the effort. I was slaying the fish on a Zara, but I also couldn't get a hit on a buzzbait. That's something else I've never caught anything on. I guess my handicap is that if something's as simple as cast and retrieve, I can't do it.

RRW,

I was in the same boat so to speak as you until a few weeks ago. I had never caught a bass on a spinner bait until one day after a hard rain, the water was really dirty and I threw a black spinnerbait with a big colorado blade by a lay down and bam, i caught my first bass on spinnerbait. Since then I don't think I have been skunked throwing a spinnerbait, for me it has been confidence, once you start catching them the floodgates will open up.

Just keep throwin and reelin, it will happen sooner or later.
