getting re-started

.. okay i was grown up with fishing..

i have a 1968 glastron V147 fish n ski with a 1957 35hp evinrude on it..

that'll be my primary fishing boat until i buy one..

i'm 14.. so just starting out..

but whats the best rod and reel for me.. as starting back off..

i have a few assorted shakesperes and a few zebco's..

3 ultra light rods.. one catfish rod.. 2 bass rods i guess they are..

3 ultra light reels.. one catish reel 2 bass reels?.. all are open faced spinners..

.. i bought a plano 1349 box to start with and the 4 interior boxes.. someone please give me a run-down list of what i need basicly..

i do want to do a bit of bream fishing but as of right now i'm starting out at

catfish
All Panfish

I just started fishing last year and this forum has really helped me... so welcome aboard. Go to the main page to get started and check out the articles. Then come back to the message board and use the search tool to look for particular things you are interested in - tackle etc. I'm not even close to as knowledgeable as the guys on here, but if If were to give advice... read all you can, but only pick a few things that seem to make sense and go with those first, as far as gear I would say buy the best you can afford, but you don't need to break the bank. Choosing gear is important and everyone will have an opinion just try to make an informed decision... Listen to the experts on this forum and if they get a little sarcastic, it's a compliment!

whats recemonded line size?

accidently bought some17 lb test instead of 10 lb ...

can i still use it?

Mr.Photo, your boat will be fine so long as it floats and the motor doesn't quit. Yes, 17lbs. line will be fine. I'd suggest that you get some bullet style weights, some Extra Wide Gap hooks (around 3/0), and whatever soft plastic worm or craw lures you like. Put the bullet on the 17lb line, then tie the hook on. Rig the soft plastic so it's weedless, and you just made yourself a worm rod. Cast that lure around pads or weed stocks, and you'll have a fun time on the water. After you caught your first couple bass, you'll start figuring out how to work the lure and you'll be a consistant angler in no time.

The down side with the Storm swimbaits is that they are absolutely lousy around any wood. They will get hung up on about every piece of it. I love to fish around wood, so it's not a bait I would use too often. Might I suggest replacing those with a fluke, rigged texas style, and throw it around any wood or cover of any type, even in the middle of the cover.

i was rigging up my lines for next weekend..
i made a bream line.. that is 10 lb test.. with a knot/ floating bobber...

and a snap swivel on it for now..

and my 17 lber .. i put a snap swivel on the end just so i could tie it off.. but i'll used your technique with the worms..

i've never used worms so idk

my uncle is taking me to a pond saturday.. where in his childhood he has had is most 12 lb test breaks..
so my 17lb will come in handy..

but i want to go bigger with my fishing.. fishing with worms and corks.. ahhh..
