Colors of Bait

Yay! Another thread by the beginner that I am! Anyways, could anyone give me/tell me the list of colors of bait that attract fish the most during various weather conditions. (cloudy, rainy, sunny, etc.) (I'm also too lazy to go into a defined search for the answer to this, I did check up on some, but I guess me keywording wasn't right.)

It is easy to get caught up with colors-most of us here can attest to that

. There are certain colors that will work no matter where you fish:

Watermelon
Watermelon Red
Green Pumpkin
June Bug
Red Shad

As far as what when I use this rule of thumb:

Clear water-natural colors like those mentioned above
Stained water-Same but add some chartreuse
Muddy water-depends on the sun conditions. Bright colors when sunny, dark colors when cloudy.

heres my color list....its pretty complex

Black, White, Green, Blue. If it ain't at least one of those colors, I probably ain't throwin it.

Might have the occasional "orangy" pumpkin color or something..but everything I throw is pretty much one or more of the above colors.

In tank tests bass are most likely to hit lures that are red and white, followed closely by yellow.

On my favorite waters I have the most success with green pumpkin and watermelon.

hmm, i'm going to go fishing really soon (as in a few minutes to half an hour) and I am going to use a black, red, and orange worm, and the condition is partly sunny and partly cloudy, with clear waters, is that a good idea?

Yes go fishing. As for those colors, only the fish will be able to answer that. BTW, presentations and locations have at least as much to do with catching bass as color does.

Ah I'm back! And I caught nothing what so ever! But i'm going back soon with a friend. Apparently the bass don't bite during the middle of march, nor do sunfish, and my pond is FULL of sunfish. Something is really wrong...

Lizards hit the nail on the head. Im no pro, but Ive been trying to force feed fish for almost 35 years. One thing I have learned is that fish arent as near as enthralled with color, as fisherpeople are! (admire my political correctness?)! hehe!

Presentation is important. Rate of fall, and where the bass are holding tell alot. I have seen bass holding on weed lines, and if you threw 6 inches from the weeds....forget it.....but if you dropped the bait right on the weededge...bamo....every time!

The biggest key to color is this. And this is my secret so lets not tell everyone lol....the absolute best color...is....the one you feel the most confident in, you will relax with it, concentrate more, take your time and present it properly, and overall fish the bait better. When fishing a bait that maybe a color we lacck confidence in we often just assume within a short time the bass dont want it, we tend to "surrender" and lose interest thats caused by lack of confidence!

i usely try to have chartrues in their somewhere......my personnel favorite colors especially when using lizards are cotton candy/chartrues! Good luck
