When fishing a jig-n-pig,you set the hook NOW!Just as soon as you detect her , cross her eyes.

Keep in mind that the jig is a mouthful!
I always set the hook hard n fast, but unlike worm fishing if I am jig n pig fishing, I may give them 1 second before I nail em!
So , to review, you flip the jig, see the line move or twitch or the "thump', say to yourself 1000 one and rear back to set the hook
On reg, jig fishing like a jig head 1/8th ounce and a mister twister, I tend to make a "sweeping motion" with the rod as I reel.
The pig n jig is dif however, takes a much more concentrated effort to set the hook HARD.
Don't let the jig intimidate ya..its just like fishing a worm, yet so much more versatile

I set the hook as soon as I detect the fish. That may be line movement or a tick. Depending on where you live your stikes may be coming from bedding bass. Often they will mouth a bait run a short distance and then drop the bait. They are very difficult to hook when they do that. WEhat is the water temp where you are. Fish2win

fish2win, mr big lives in florida, and the spawn has been over for quite a while. mr big, when fishing a jig, i set the hook imediatly after seeing or feeling the thump. you will feel 2 thumps, first being the bass sucking it in, the second will be it throwing it out. this happens in a matter of seconds so you have to set the hook fast.

When you usually get that sudden tap its usually the head of the jig getting hit! after a while you will be able to tell if it's the tail or head of the jig. I say set the hook early on him ...but some guys say let him run with it a bit cause they usually do a second gulp to get the bait down. But I don't recommend that if you are a catch and release type of fisherman. The idea is to fish a jig slow to medium retrieve to get a good hook set. In my books the JIG is one of the all round best baits to use, it's very consistentat getting the fish in the boad and has proved it's self to me time and time again. I use Jig's from Bass to Walleye to Pike I don't think there's a fish you couldn't catch on a jig sort to speak.

How are you hooking your trailer on the hook? if you do not thread it on like you would rigging a worm, it will spin 360 degrees on the hook and it can get in the way of the hookpoint. The other thing is that most times you have to sharpen the hooks even before you use the jig.P N J
