Thumbs up Painted Bullet Weights

I painted some bullet weights bright red as an experiment. The last 4 trips to the lake,I out fished my partner. We were both using the same worm
(zoom watermelon seed). I used my red weights and he used the regular ones. Results: Caught alot of bass and talked alot of trash. TIP:Use automotive spray paint, lasts longer

I just read yesterday something about painted weights. Maybe it works better, maybe not, but it's something to consider.

I think the way you were fishing the worm had to do with you catching more fish. It might be possible that the colored weight made the difference, but I doubt it.

That would also be my guess. Very good point

Well, I've been spray painting my worm sinkers black for years. Does it make a difference? I have more confidence in the baits when using them, so for me it does make a difference.

It was probably just how you fished the worm. Twice I went fishing with my firend and both times we used the same bait. He outfished me 10-1 each time. At the end of the second day, he told me what he had been doing and immediately I started catching more fish. Its about presentation, not necessarily a tiny color difference.

What was he doing?

I agree with that and also; who had the front of the boat? I also agree with Reb though, if you have confidence in it, do it.

This maybe bogus but in clear water even unpainted lead has somewhat of a shine to it, muted but a shine none the less. It would be better to use a color weight close to the color of the bait you are using. JMO

Red hooks were invented to simulate blood/injured bait. The red bullet weights
simulate a head injury and a easy meal?

I read one a few weeks ago.....basically talking about red fishing line. Like, cajun red, etc.., well you know "they" say that red color is basically invisible after so many feet of water.........well, if thats the case why are they making bleeding hooks? I honestly can say that IMO that confidence is all it is. If it works use it, if it don't, grab the bait monkey and take him on a field trip to BPS and spend some of that hard earned money on other lures that you saw Van Dam and Iconelli using this past weekend! lol I myself will stick with what I know works.

Default Good Advice

Hef, that was some good advice you put out. I still like to experiment though. I know one thing, you can sure tie up alot of $ in fishing
equipment these days. Oh well, you can't take it with you.

I wouldnīt put my hands in the fire to assure it without a doubt, the red hook debate and theory has itīs followers and itīs detractors. Iīve fished with red hooks, fished with regular ones, silver, blue, bronze, black and havenīt seen absolutely no evidence that red hooks are better than regular ones, but if you think and believe that they will make a difference by all means use them, anything that enhances and makes you feel more confident is good for you.
