How deep does my trolling motor need to be in the water?

depends on the boat.. but most say the bottom of the skeg is supose to be about 12" under the water. now me i figure if i want to get skinny i'll yank it up far enough to make wirlpools everytime i step on it.. or if i am in the rough stuff and i am getting extra moist from the prop i'll shove it deeper..
