Default My homemade fishing scent has aged - I'd recommend this recipe to all!

Ok, back when I was Lone_Archer, I posted a recipe for an easy to make garlic scented recipe for soft plastics.

Simply load up a sizeable spray bottle with some vegetable oil, some diced garlic, and add some salt. Shake it up really well, and then allow the bottle to sit in the hot sun (in a place where animals can't get it).

I now keep it in the canoe, and keep it outside year round. After 3 years, I still have half a bottle, and discovered that over time, the scent strengthens as it ages. It's durable and lasts awhile, and also makes the lures very slick.

It's especially good when running plastic worms and stickbaits through weeds. I put them on my Zoom worms and Slug-gos (what else? ) and my catch rates go up.

It's a lot better than the stuff they have at the store, easy to make, and if you make a lot at once, it will age over time as it sits in the sun.

Maybe I should start a home-business.

I've never used any type of scent, I'll give this a try, I'll have my girlfriend make it up. Is there a noticable different when using this compared to no scent at all?

WHAT?? Never used scent. Gotta tell ya bro if ya aint using scent you are possibly missing out on strikes and the plus of having a few more seconds to set the hook on lite biting bass.

Thanks, Sluggo..... I'll give it a try.

I've always contended that scent helps. Here is a somewhat round about way to scent soft plastics. Mix two rounded tablespoons garlic powder, one teaspoon salt together in two cups hot tapwater. After mixing thoroughly, pour some into the bait baggies and mush about. Seal each baggie and float it on top a large bowl or pail of hot tapwater for twenty minutes, then open and pour off the excess liquids from each bag of baits. Re-seal and go fishing. In time the baggies will dry out, but that's OK, the scent has penetrated the lures. If, however, the scent has molded onto the lures, simply rinse off in cold water and re-treat.

This doesn't have the ability to slick down the lures for going through weeds, but is another good way to obtain the scent.

Good fishing, Mac
