Default The spawn is coming

Well, it is right around the corner for a good chance to catch a lunker here in south MS. If we can catch a 3-5 warming trend in mid-late February, they will start moving in to the shallows and fanning. If we don't get it though, they will usually be staging on some kind of break between 8-12' of water. The Florida stain, which is probably the most commonly stocked in our state lakes, will start in at the first warm up in March-April. The F1 stocked lakes tend to fall a little later between April-May. We have a state lake capable of 10-15 lbers, with the largest reported at 18.5. I am going to give it a try during the spawn. When do they start spawning out for y'all?

With the current weather conditions, I am expecting them to start claiming beds the last week of Feb. The actual spawn should be in full force early to mid march.

Spawn here in Tennesse varies year to year it can come as early as Feb. But the way the weathers been this year it seems like spawn is coming a little bit later. May would be my guess.

I think I go back offshore on Feb. 3rd, so when I get in the 17th or so. Maybe I can find some on the bed with the beaver or the lizard. I tried to dot the areas I found last year after the spawn to try to hit them a little earlier this year.

The males have started all ready. Only a few, but they're there all right. They'll really start doing it with any numbers next full moon, than the females will get on shortly after. Late Jan., through February I guess is a good bet!
