Default Lucky 13

Lucky13

I had never heard of this, Had You?

I just got a call from someone that wanted to know if it worked, so I did a google search and found out that its a variation of the popR...
I bet it was in all our granpa or dads tackle box...probably now they make it out of plastic, still looks like a winner!
Anyone here ever used or seen it, I read where muskie and bass fishermen
used them for the last 75 years , made by Heddon

I NOTICED NO HECKLE FEATHERS ON THIS ONE ,BUT OTHER MODELS HAD FEATHERS AND PROPS

I've never used one, heard the red and white one is killer for the topwater bite as the sun comes up. And yes it is one of those old lures thats been around for ages.

Now those are from the "Jurassic Park" of baits , I have some I bought back in 1980, I thought they were discontinued. It´s not the greatest bait of the century, they do catch fish but there are other poppers that do a better job than them.

Raul,

I know what you mean lol...I can remember all those green Heddon packets of crankbaits displayed at one store and another, they look like they were made years ago and passed around...
I'll probably spot one in the future and check it out, laugh, and stick with the pop R

What I would strongly recommend is to check the Heddon site to see if they still make them, who knows ? maybe they are worth actually more than what they are asking for them as collectors lures. By any chance you saw any River Runts ?

Here are other lures that some of you will remember from Heddon: the Sonic, the Super Sonic, the Chugger, the Sonar; gee, one of two or both, I´ve been in this business for quite a while and/or I´m getting old !

Although I've been tempted I've never bought one. I've heard a lot of good things about them. They also make a newer Baby Lucky 13. 2 5/8" And 3/8oz. If I bought one I would be sure too add a feather hook for added attaction.

Never used one but I saw Jimmy Houston using one on his show once in red/white and he was killin' 'em.

I have a couple from my grandfather's tackle box in a wall display. They do still make them, but they don't feel the same as the old wood ones. It is a pretty big topwater lure, about the size of a spook. They also make a Baby 13 that is a little smaller. I like them, but I think it is more that I fished with them as a kid. They do catch fish, but I think I would choose a spook first. If I needed a popper, a Chug Bug or Pop-R would probably be my first choice.

The Heddon Tiny Chugger is my all-time favorite popper. Too bad they quit making them.
