Default DOA Shrimp

This time of year, the pond fishing is hot and hard. If you want bass, shrimp under river docks is theway to go. I believe that I could win the forum tournament with one of these fat, shrimp-fed bass, but to follow the rules (and b/c it's more fun) I want to go artiificial. In this situation, would Doa shrimp, or weightless Yum crawbugs work? Or is this a time when live bait is the best/only way to go?

well if you can get a bass over 12 pounds then you might be able to win it.
Try some gulp shrimp baits around those places.....

I have never freshwater fished with shrimp before, as I thought they lived only in saltwater. I personally have a grudge against gulp, because I think they're products are overpriced, non productive, and not durable, plus they dry out. And they don't warn you about this before you spend 5$ on a bag of their stuff. I think the doa shrimp looks pretty realistic, but know nothing about the crawbugs. I thought I saw a storm shrimp once, but i could have been from someone else.

Not true, ghost and grass shrimps are freshwater shrimps. The belong to the class Genus Palaeomonetes. I have never used them to fish for laremouths, but they work great for stripers, at least out here on the CA Delta.

Most good sized fresh shrimp you buy (not pinkies) come from my area. They aren't grass shrimp, they're real shrimp.

Nobody's weighed any in Q3....

Isn't the DOA shrimp about 3-4 inches long? Thats a little larger than the type of shrimp you get in freshwater. I also don't know how much bass feed on those shrimp comparred to shellcrackers and bluegill.

We get 'em up to 6 inches. These are real shrimp. Same as you would buy for dinner or redfishing. www.shrimpin.com

Freshwater shrimp such as grass shrimp are real, although they are very small.. Or did I misunderstand your statement? LOL...

Haven't tried shrimp for Bassing yet, but I did try them out looking for reds. No luck but the little fish, and crabs eat them. If it was or is live bait, won't work on the tourney, I would suggest somthing similar to the YUM crawbugs, or even the Hardnose craws look even closer to the shrimp IMO. I will say that if you hit them at the right time or place they should work. Baitfish imitations have been pretty successful for me, plus the Paca Craws. I have become a believer in what a lot of the guys told me, about the summers here. It gets tough, and it's the hardest time of the year to catch em. The best luck for me has been punching into the vegetation. Otherwise try drop shotting a baby fluke. As for types of shrimp and size, I have no idea. I love eating them though LOL.

I would tend to think that all the bottom feeders would get to that shrimp before a bass would, I've fished on the coast from cape cod to st. augustine and was under the impression if you wanted a good fish you had to use a finger mullet or other live baits besides the shrimp..I remember the first time I went sea trout fishing I used shrimp and kept catch 'mr. whiskers"

I have caught many a dinner on a live shrimp, fished below a popping cork, popped twice every 10 seconds or so. You cast the way the boats drifting, so you can keep the bait in a 3 foot circle. Caught lots of trout, some reds, and a couple of skipjack.

This is a tidal river with salt influence. The shrimp run from the ocean to the freshish water every year for some reason.

OHHHHHH!
Then yes, at that time of year, I would definitely try a shrimp lure. I woul try it a couple of weeks later too, because there might still be some hungry bass out there! I would also try live shrimp, b ut not enter the fish I caught, in the tourney.

You do ant good as far as reds & specs-they dont call them DOAs for nothing. As far as the gulps Ive used the natural with pretty good success for salt species.

Yes they catch Bass LOL. My buddy used them a lot in Tomoka River, and caught some of everything including Bass. He also uses Gulp Shrimp occasionally.

I have never used their shrimp, but all of their other product that I have used, have SUCKED. They cost 5 frigging dollars a bag, and you cant reuse a bait, or put in back in the bag, and if you take them out, they will dry out.
