Hard to beat a skirted jig with a nice twin tail grub or paca craw on the end, great for skipping into hard to reach places as well.
Good luck

Docks can be hit or miss. But just about every kind of bait can produce around them, cranks, spinnerbaits, plastics, and a PNJ is also a very good choice.

I really like using small crank's and try to hit them all the lower poles on the dock on the reel in. It causes the bass to hit it after it bounces off. I do get snagged a lot, but is worth the trouble. Also you can beet a heavy weighted bait that can get in tight spots. I like using the slider brand hookds because they dont seem to snag as much because the weight is right on the hook. Good luck

I like pitching the pilings and skipping under the dock. Try to find docks where the platform is close to the water and either skip or pitch a grape with green glitter worm (junebug Zoom trickworm is a good one) under the dock near the pilings. Use 1/8 oz or less weight for skipping with a spinning rod. Use 1/4 oz weight for pitching.

Up here in Lake Erie, the smallies will hammer the heck out of chartuese twistertail jigs. Usually run a crank, jig, jig, crank, jig, jig pattern. Seems to be about the most productive method for the docks up here, particularly at Put-in-Bay.

for docks, what all these guys said but if you are just catching dinks from the docks, find a hump or drop-off nearby the dock and slay the pigs.

shakey heads are good on docks, but I have had the best luck burning a spinnerbait...
