Each brand has its own pros and cons 7hdi or bird 688 and a bird can be bought preloaded NO NEED FOR Card
I own mostly birds but do not own a 688c,view,vision,798 si,they share the same mounts, power cord and sometimes transducer. Each of those are about same level different brands.di stands for down image and ;possibly might give a better pic dunno. The 688c giving a tad wider view but not as detailed as a narrow di.
Possibly someone with more knowledge of di can explain the differences.

A navionics chips is going to make a huge difference with the topography of the maps. I just got two HDS lowrances, and love them so far. But the brand is a lot of a personal choice. If you are used to one, go with that brand most likely.
