Default Motor forward and reverce

I just bought an '87 Skeeter Strada f-80, 60hp mariner.

Took it on the lake 1st time yesterday, motor smokes allot, dies not want to idle, and also when i put it in forward the motor goes in reverse and when i try to go in reverse boat moves forward.

Still had good time fishing though, use new motorguide trolling motor for about 5 hours straight, since already on water might as well fish.. LOL

pictures are of boat after new seats, and before new trolling motor, and also a picture of the motor.

Haha, well then just pull back when you want to go forward like an airplane pilot or something.

Wonder if someone intentionally preferred that.

If the thing set up there could be a lot of gunk in the carburetor. Run some seafoam through it again if you live close to the lake and take it out, see how it does - in the past I've run some minor problems out. If there is a lot of varnish in the carb you might have to rebuild it which isn't hard or a big thing, lots of people do it just because when they buy used engines. It could be a problem other than that of course but a varnished carb happens a lot.

Prolly the lower unit was pulled for a new impellar and when put back top gether wasnt in the right gear. Bet my pay check on that one. As far as the smoking first thing to do is give that motor a Seafoam Treatment. Then we can get down to the rest.

you guys were right, the piece in the lower unit was backwards, it has a different lower unit than original, Also i am rebuilding the carbs, new stator (wires are exposed and green color) .

The top Cylender has 125psi, center has 130psi and bottom has 130psi (average i think is 125psi), so when finished this week I should have practically a brand new motor and perform well, atleast i hope.
