Default trolling motor ???

is there any thing you guys do to your trolling motors to keep them running like new i have the Wireless 75lbs thrust. Was wondering if there is anything I should service before I put it back in the water.

I also have a 55lbs thrust transom minn kota however it got fishing line caught up in it. Ever since then its suxs if i can save 200 bucks it would be worth it so i ask can you take the housing apart past just taking the blade off. Thanks in advance

Thanks

Try with blade removed grabbing the line with needle nose pliers and placing in reverse.
Not saying one cant take the rear off, saying if one does most lilky will need seals, but if totally shot one wont lose much. Two very long bolt/scews hold it on,on an old 52 pd thrust I had.
Generally internally packed motors so no oil needed, keep batteries up in the remote control and keep spares on hand.

I take the prop off after every trip and clear out any weeds or line.

I would strongly advise against trying to disassemble it further. I have done so before, and it was a PAIN to get back together. I will never do it again.

Besides....there is really no way for fishing line to get inside it. If the line is affecting it, it is wrapped around the prop shaft, which can be easily cleared by removing the prop....cake.

If you ever take it apart there are many steps to rebuild it. Thrust bearing / shaft bearing / brushes and gaskets are needed if you take it apart. The brushes require a very strong soldier gun to replace. And when it is all back together with all those parts you must repaint to seal it up.

thanks for the feedback guys guess i;m just going to have to bite the bullet and buy a new one. When i turn it on it makes alot of noise. I saw a minn kota 55 thrust for around 200. Do you know of any that have more thrust that are under $ 350?? Thanks in advance hope to get it in the water next week. Went scouting this past weekend every where still under ice. Hopefully by the middle of this week it will be gone. See alot of guys catching them in south NJ so its not to long now.

Question to you fellas!!!
WHile fishing today, I ran into something under water with the trolling motor. Not sure what it was, but guessing a limb of some sort. The shaft was not bent, motor still works on all speeds, I can twist the prop head with my hand, but the pedal feels like if I force it to either front or back, something will break. The pedal is not working as far as steering. Any possible causes?

Sounds like you broke the cable clip on the head.. Pretty easy to fix. Need to order the clip..

Is this something that I can order online and repair myself, or should I take it to a repair facility

I have done it several times with my Motor Guides.. Just need an Oring spreader and a phillips.

I must admit that I am mechanically inclined though..

thanks for your help and advise. Think im gonna just call a repair facility, cause I have searched online for hours for a "Cable Clip" for model # 950010150. But to no avail. Not knowing exactly where the part is or what it looks like, makes it very hard. If it were a MinnKota, might be a little easier because they actually have a part named cable clip, but I have not been able to find anything for Motorguide by that name. I can build a house, that would be nooo problem. Guess I'll leave this one to the boat guys.

They refer to that part as just a "clip" there are a few sites online that have exploded views of the motor. Look up motorguide parts. I was just looking for a control module for mine and stumbled across it. I'll try n post a link.
