I think I would have released it after a picture or two.Maybe even send it packed in ice to a animal research place. The last thing I would do is take the time to smoke it for eating unless I was going to send it to my mother in law or something. P N J

Eat something like that and you might wake up the next morning with two mouths.

That deformity may be caused by pollution of some type. I dont know enough about Nebraska to get more specific but if I was a gambling man That would be my bet. I have seen numerous smallmouth that had a camel hump in thier back. The cause is acid rain. There is one or two year classes that the deformity is very common. You will catch a smallmouth that has the head and shoulders of a 2lbder and the tail of a 6 incher with a very pronounced hump at thier dorsal fin. The TWRA says it is the result of acid rain blown in here from other areas. The rain came during the spawn and deformed the fish while they were in the egg/larvea stage. It is a very sad site.It is also a very big testamonial to the resielance of nature. Fish2win

Strange things happen. I caught a 10 inch smallmouth that had no lips, took it to the game and inland fisheries, they said that some one had caught it when it was smaller and removed the lips. Sure was a sad looking bass. I don't like to see things like that, but I know it happens.

I just saw that pic of the two mouthed critter on tv and seconds later I see it here...I agree the angler should have returned it...its like catching a one eyed bass, turn it back and give it a chance.
