Pop-R
What is the best way to fish a pop-r lure. I have only caught one bass of these in my life. I got a few more hits though? Thanks

it depends on what the fish want. if they want it fast pop it fast. if they want it slow pop it slow. erratic.

A popper is retrieved with downward twitches with the rod tip. My standard retrieve is twitch pause, twitch twitch pause, twitch pause, twitch twitch twitch pause then repeat. The pauses are usually 2-3sec. long. I think I made it sound more complicated than it is. I use a faster retrieve when looking for fish but tend to slow down when I know where fish are.

I read that Zell Rowland likes to fish them pretty fast. He grinds the lower lip down to be about even with the face and continually reels to keep the bait moving and twitches to make it spitt. That's what grinding the lower lip down does, so it doesn't blurb and bubble so much, it spits more like a prop bait. I haven't caught too many fish doing it that way but haven't used it a whole lot either, but i well say my best days and the most action (bite wise) that i've had or seen with them has been when the water is cool (50 to 60 degree range). In December of all time. Been trying when I know there been a good buzz bait bite on but haven't even gotten a hit on it.

hey poppers are great. the way i see it that if fishing gets tough, thats the only thing i'll use. the one thing you have to do when fishing the pop-r or any top water lure,is wait 2 seconds before u set the hook. alot of people will get excited i set it right when thefish hits. when they do that the lure ''pops''out of the fishes mouth
