Do you take you reel to somewhere to get restrung?
Hey guys simple question, I always restring my reels myself, but my buddy takes his to dick's and they'll do it for 3 bucks for line under 10 lbs, 5 or 6 bucks for over 10 lb. For buying line for around 5 bucks it pays off to do it yourself if you do more than one reel or do it more than once, but I was just wondering if you guys take your reels to a shop to get restrung? Thanks!

I've alwyas done it myself, but at a store near my house, if you buy the line there, they'll do it for an extra buck. Im thinking about just getting it done by them, because, sometimes i do mess up.

We used to go to the local tackle shop and have them put it on, I think it goes on lots better and you get further casts.
Unfortunately most shops like that dont hang around forever and you end up putting it on yourself, I always put a pencil through the spool of new line and support it over the edge of a table with a book, and then stand 10 feet away and put it on My reel, and kinda hold tension on the line half way up the rod to get a tight wrap, you have to watch what you're doing , you dont want one end of the spool on the reel to have to much line , if you hold the line too tight as your re spooling, the top of the spinning spool or the side of the baitcaster spool with get to larger and they make for crappy casts... |

i do it myself..this way if it messes up, i'm the one to blame..not anybody else. plus, you gotta trust your own spooling, right!!

My local bait and tackle will do it for anyone. Free if you buy the reel and line there. I've never had it done there, though. Dicks did it once for me. I bought the reel and line and they put it on for free. I don't know if that is common practice for them or the salesman was just being helpful. I do all respooling myself.

So my question is once you cast out a dozen times or so wouldn’t you lose (at least on the first 50 yrds) the advantage of having the machine spool.

The place I go does it for free. Plus they lube your reel for you. Which is nice. But when you do it yourself you know how much you want on your reel.

Every spring, there is a fishing festival at the sportsmans center in jeresy. They will put the line on your reels for 10 cents. Also, mono costs 1 for a spooling on some days! I have never done it, but am going to this spring I think to see how they do!
