Default Another question

The Rebel Catalogue says my two inch crawfish crank dives 7 feet. I have a whole bunch of these lures (there was a time when the river smallies only wanted this lure, now they laugh at it). Anyway, my crawfish cranks are about five years old. I am wondering if they changed the lure because I don't believe my crawfish cranks dive anywhere near 7 feet.

This information is all part of my quest to label all of my crankbaits with their correct diving depth. Before I write (with permanent marker) on my crawfish rebels, I wanted to see if the diving depth of 7 feet is correct.

I believe they have several versions of the crawfish crank. I have one that is about fifteen years old. I believe it only dives about 4ft.

Two factors come into play. one is the size plug with various size bills. You may have had a longer billed one than the shorter ones you now own.
Number two, the type and size of your line , plus how you position your rodtip on retrieve makes a dif. on how deep your lure will go..
I am guessing its the length of the bill...usually a plug the size of the rebel will have a bill as long as the fish or longer to get past 7 foot range.

LOL ........Women and there perogatives.........Heard THAT before anyway like jb said the line size and rod postion has alot to do with it. Also lure manufacturers have sometimes changed the material they make there baits out of and it chaanges the depth due to densitity of the material they use. I generally use 12 lb test for cranks and knowing this I know that a lure that is designed to dive to 8ft on a long cast will only dive to about 6 1/2 maybe 7 on a retrive whereas sometyimes I use 20lb test and they only dive to 4ft. Depends on the end result that I am trying to acheuve.

Oh i don't use "perogatives" very often.....i usually just go with whatever works....i am humbled and enlightened at the information you have gracefully given here Laser...who knew you were sooooooooooo smart???...but your absolutely right....and i too use 12 lb test on crankbaits...unless i am feeling frisky ya know....then i pull out my trusty "E"...lovingly refer to my spin rig....and throw them on 8 lb....hehehehe.....
