Default soft plastic survey

ive heard of all different brands of plastic worms that are supposed to be the best. i would like to know what everyones personal favorites are:

1. Best all around brand
2. Best style(grubs, large worms, twin tail, etc.)
3. Best color for that particular style.

this is just an all around best, dont take in the fact of the water condition or anything, just the all around most reliable , thanks

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately, there ain't no such animal as "best". I use Zoom, Wave Worms, Yum, and several brands I can't think of off the top of my head. They all produce at times.

I really like Berkley Powerbait and Wave. I also use a lot of Zoom b/c they make just about everything and in every color. But yeah, it is hard to pick one as the best.

I have to agree with Terminator and Rebbasser,

How on certain conditions some may be better than others and there is no best, it's whatever the fish happen to be biting on that day.

But, what i have had my best luck has been on 6" or 7" Berkley Powerbaits. I like to use all black or red shad, witht he Original Scent. I'm tellin ya man, i just about swear by these things when it comes to soft plastics. And they seem to work just about year-round.

Wave worms are also very good plastics. I prefer to buy the 5", but i almost always cut them in half, they are so thick i find myself casting to far at times with them.

Another good thing about Powerbaits is when your fishing really mucky or grassy areas, these baits have just enough weight where you don't really need any extra weight, but i still like to fish them texas rig, and wave worms, if i cut them in half i need an extra weight, but full size(5" or more) i never use weights, they are thick and long enough to were you can cast them a ways and already have enough tension on the line for my style of fishing.

P.S.
Almost everytime i go fishing and use weights it's a texas rig with 1/8 ounce bullet weight.

The V&M line of baits are great due to the fact that they normally dont need scent added. There Pork Shad is a great bait along with there finesse style worms. That particular bait that you are referring to is a sweet beaver imitation. I Dont recall the name. As far as the plastics is concerned the Power worm is probably one of the all time favorites as far as producing fish in the 7" model. I myself find that I have WAY to many colors of worms. Concidering I always end up throwing black shad, red shad or a watermelon color. The other colors will catch fish at times but when it comes right down to it those three colors will always produce.

The very best lures are passed up by many fishermen. In my opinion 2 lures that will catch fish day in and day out, year round. They are the 5" Kalin grub on a 1/4 oz. leadhead jig and the simple Zoom 4" centipede carolina rigged.I prefer smoke/salt & pepper , bluegill, motor oil/red flake for the Kalin colors, although if you fish certain akes like Oneida, avocado green is fool proof to use.The Zoom centipede color is Cotton candy. Yep its a sissy pink/ lots of sparkles, it makes the stomache queasy looking at it. I sent the wife after centipedes since she was in the area of the bait shop, My buddy /shop owner as a joke sent the cotton candy color instead. I was plenty p*ssed, I was on good fish and needed the green pumpkin centipedes, tournament was the next morning.I took the stupid cotton candy color baits and won the tournament, never looked back. I fish the sissy colored baits and catch alot of fish even though people I fish with make fun of the color. P N J

PnJ-you C-rigging those fries?

Guys, if PnJ recommends something you can take it to the bank. He turned me on to some Grassmaster Jigs that are Awesome fish catchers-just ask Lizards.

The V&M baits are not the same as an origional Sweet Beaver. They are stiffer and don't have the action that a Sweet Beaver has on the fall.
I do like to use a Sweet Beaver in California color.
I also like a Culprit red shad worm w/ green flakes in the 7 1/2 inch size.
If necc, I will go with a Senko in red shad.
For C-rigging, I use a Strike King bait.
All the above baits work well "for me".

Rebbasser, Thank you for the kind words. Yes I use a modified carolina rig, only modified in the weight of it everything else is the same. I use a 3/16 oz., or 3/8 oz. weight instead of the normal heavier 1/2- 3/4 oz. weight. They don't look like much to the human eye, but they consistantly catch fish. P N J

PBJ

Sounds like you c rig alot. Man I could use some tips on the crig. I have tried it got all the componebts necessary to c-rig but havent got that damn technique figured out. Any tips would be GREAT. Remeber I fish where weeds are the norm unless I move out to deeper water.

Laser,I fish them on the outside of the weedlines, points and on weeded flats. they will come through some weeds with no trouble. I use a 4 foot seaguar florocarbon leader the majority of the time. The french fry bait will come through the weeds pretty well. It doesn't cling to the weeds like a lizard , or worm does.I also use smelly jelly scent , its almost like vasoline, I think it helps the bait slide through the gunk better. P N J

The very few fish I have caught on the c-rig where just all of a sudden there. Do you find that the bite is different on a c-rig as compared to the T-rig??????

As far as a twitch bait is concerned, thats normally the way that the fish strike the bait.(on the pause)
For your C-rigs, yes sometimes fish will just pick it up and run and thats what you feel. Other times you will get a strike, like with a worm.
Occasionally they may strike you C-rig bait on the fall, but thats not normally the case. I once had a 7 lber hit the bait on the fall, but that was a rarity.
