Default Advantage? live bait or artifical lures

Which one would catch the most bass?
At first ya tend to think how can live bait(shiner) be beat?
On the other hand you can pinpoint a artifical lure exactly where you think the bass is, cast after cast ...many times a live shiner will go somewhere to hide, if its lucky ..
so whats your opinion? According to Hank Parker, a artifical lure (like spinnerbait) has double the chances of catching a bass than live bait..

Well, when I take my wife and daughter, I usually catch more bass than they do. They use live bait and I fish lures. Besides who has the patience to wait for a strike..I want to create them! By the way JB, that picture you have is kinda.....well, I just don't get it?

I've been beaten with shiners, and I've beaten people fishing shiners, all while using artificials. There are days when Live bait is your best bet to catch fish, I really just prefer to move and cast, than to sit and wait. I don't like to fly around, but work areas more thoroughly.

I believe in the grand scheme of things, that live bait is more appealing to fish because it is "alive". Fishing with shiners especially because of the way they act when being stalked by a really big fish. You really have a tough time replicating the fear factor while using artifical bait, but I like to try and entice a real fish using fake food. jmho

Whenever I fish with someone using live bait it seems I always outfish them. And, like Bo says, I don't have the patience to wait for a strile and want to create them.

Bo-welcome to the forum, BTW! JB has a thing for clowns-his avatar changes every few days with a new one.

too many factors to consider. some people know how to work lures better than others, and some people know how to "steer" shiners better than others. the lure is gonna cover more water, but at the same time the shiner is going to be more realistic.

Artificials, On the bright sunny days ,you can put them in the high percentage strike areas and catch more fish. Live bait, when there is a heavy fronts been moving through and its really too windy and dark overcasted days where the bass aren't relating to cover. P N J

i truely believe a good lure fisherman will out catch a live bait fisherman over the course of a season using lures.as a matter of fact i don't even think it will be close.

If you can put the live bait (shiner, shad, craw, worm) where it needs to be put, I don't care how good at artificials you are, you're gonna get beat. I'm sure sometimes an artificials guy can outfish someone using bait, because of presentation, but all being equal live bait almost always will win.

Hmmmm interesting question there buddy but I would have to say first off I dont use live bait. To dang expensive and so boring it could make a precher cuss. Who wants to catch a fish with a fish. Me I love the idea of fooling a bass. There are times that a live bait has the upper hand but when all is said and done the artifical will be the king.
