Default Oil injected outboard question

I have an 88 mercury 35hp. outboard.. it says oil injected on the side cover and back. I took the covers off , and cant seem to find any type of oil tank ? Nor is there one in the fuel , battery compartment , and the gas tank seems to be straight fuel ? Any suggestions ? Is there anyway to find a manual for this outboard online anywhere ?

CMorg, if you are not the original owner he may have just taken the oil tank off and mixed the oil in with the gas. Since there is no tank that would be my guess.

Yeah ,I kinda wondered about that too... I am not the origional owner , and the guy I bought it from moved back to his home state , so I cant get ahold of him now. The motor turns over and runs fine , but I shut it down pretty quick untill I know how much oil is in it...

If you want to be on the safe side go ahead and add the oil to the gas. If it already has oil in it it will smoke like crazy but you won't burn it up. I'd bet a dollar to a doughnut, as my dad used to say, that he removed the oil tank. Take a look at the top of the cowling. My Merc is a lot bigger-115 hp-but it has a cap that allows me to fill the oil tank. If yours has one you will know for sure.

back in the late 80's the oil injection system was a new "gadget" that alot of moter company's added to the moters. most all 80's oil injection systems were a pain in the azz.they were fairly unreliable and prone to clog up.. in an 88 i would guess they yanked the oil system and do what reb said..add the oil to the tank..

My 86 HAD a small clear tank in the fuel compartment that was for oil injection, it clogged, I burnt up and had to have rebuilt. It is gone now and I straight mix.

You can pull a sample of the fuel from the tank, and see if it has a dark color it is probably mixed.
