Default spinnerbaits

Awesome bait for slowrolling around staging points. Does anyone else use them? I have heard lots of talk on jerkbaits, but I prefer a blue/chartruse spinnerbait.

I think everyone uses them. They are my favorite bait all year long.

I love spinnerbaits,I like a 3/8 ounce model with either a single colorado or a double willow, the skirts depend on the time of the year, water color, and how active the bass are. I also vary my retrieve until the bass tell me what they want.

I guess I am the only guy on here that doesn't use them. I have three (only bought one). I cast crankbaits, senkos, topwaters, and flies mostly. What are your favorite spinnerbaits? Colors?

I've never fished a spinner bait and probly never will, that's pretty much what every one does here exept for me and that's why I get them.

My favorite all-around spinnerbait is a white and chartreuse with a colorado/willowleaf Terminator. But, I'm sure everyone has their own go to blade, color, and weight combination that works for them. Different strokes for different folks.

EVERY guy during the late fall, winter and early spring on my home lake throws a (in sarcastic tone) "white spinner bait with a single willow blade" and "slow-rolls" em'. Although they catch fish on em' I just can't bring myself to use them! I just think, by this point, the fish have seen plenty of these dang baits and so have I. I really try to branch out and fish a big black/blue 1/2 oz jig instead .

Sorry, I'll get off my soap box now... just got a little riled up.

If Kevin Van Dam and Rick Clunn say they are their "go to" bait that means something to me.

So, what you're saying is, that when dampeoples says 'a spinnerbait is my go to' bait, you just ignore me? Thanks

The best thing about a spinnerbait is that it is hard to fish wrong. A simple cast and retrieve will catch you fish. Once you have mastered the art of precision casting you can put them in tight cover and by varying your retrieve you will catch more fish. Not necessarily bigger fish but more fish.

IMO, a cloudy day with a decent wind is a prime spinnerbait day.

Yeah, thats when I tend to throw them, and the days they tend to work well. I have had most of my luck fishing them parallel to the bank, in shallow water, sometimes bumping the bottom.

I asked my tackle shop guy (Tackle Joe) what color to buy and he said, "Any color as long as it is white and chartreuse."

Don't limit yourself to a few colors! I was he same way, had a guy tell me about an article he read on different colors, I tried what he was telling me, and it netted me a 5Lb fish within 15 minutes! Can't say a standard white or chart would have worked or not, I sold those at the boat ramp that morning, but those guys skunked

I look at blades and their
shape, cup, and color more than a skirt...
We are lucky enough to have a tackle store in Dayton that has boxes of every blade shape and size you can imagine to custom build that style you need under certain conditions...
Most of the time I'll pick up the standard colorado/willow 3/8th size, but sometimes ya need a dif. flash and thump.
